Well Today's ride was an adventure. The ride started out in sun, and ending in a downpour. The trail consisted of areas of sand and dirt, which became very sloppy MUD when the rain came. One section was a very steep downhill section consisting of deep loose sand (Dune) Now that was sketchy. I had to basically sit on the top tube of the bike and leave one foot unlatches (as a running board) and slip and slide down the hill. When the rain came I was of course on top of the hills with absolutely NO cover. The rain was blowing diagonally and it felt like I was being bombarded by a thousand BB's. Then to cap it all I did an endo over my bike and gashed up my leg pretty good (it was bleeding all down the side, well until it started to downpour, then it got washed away. All and all the ride was half fun, half hell. Can't wait to do it next year. I'll post pictures next.
A couple of other items.......I found out from Specialized that my Ground Control is a collectors ride and is worth upwards of $1700.00
. And the best thing of all is I came away today with a brand new 07 Specialized FSR XC Bike, for FREE (they were giving away 2 bikes to those who rode partook in the MTB tour and needed a new ride....I more then qualified on my classic..... So now I finally have the ride to keep up with you guys....of course I now need to get in shape to actually do that, but at least my ride is not holding me back now.
Here's a photo of the bike from specialized. (I need to go to a Specialized Dealer to pick it up) I was sooooooo stoked when I won the bike.....it made to whole ride and trip more then worth it.
Wish you guys could have come
Cheers

Next year we need to have SRIC Mountain Bike Crew representation there. In fact I will make plans to reserve a large camping spot @ Laguna Seca for our crew...That way we can spend the entire weekend at the event without having to deal with the 3+ hour drive (oneway). A large camp ground could hold 6 tents and I can get one with a large driveway so that everyone can park their cars there and we ride everywhere else......also for those who have significant others.....a night out on the town in Monterey would be fantastic.. We would all split on the cost for food (BBQ) and drinks.
Anyone interested??? Let me know and I'll make the arrangements for next year.

Where I am thinking of getting the camp spot the rest rooms are about 100 yards away along with the hot running showers (all in-building). This will not be a primitive site as there will be electrical outlets and a water spigot on site (This site was designed for an RV, so there will be a large driveway for all to park at the campground. Like I said there should be plenty of space to fit 6-7 tents and it has trees for shade. We have plenty of time to plan this as Laguna Seca do not start reservations for their 08 events until the first monday in January. But as you can imagine they get filled FAST. Also this camp ground overlooks the entire Laguna Seca Raceway. So you could watch many of the racing events from your lawn chair without leaving the camp. I've stayed there before & its a great experience. The event is from Thursday - Sunday, so those who want to come only on the weekend well leave a space for you.
We have a WHOLE year to plan this folks.
Let me know

Heres the info of the camping @ Laguna Seca. I was planning on getting one in the Chaparrel Camp Grounds.
CHAPARRAL
Premier Sites 1 - 82. ELECTRICAL and WATER HOOKUPS. The Chaparral Campground contains 75 Premier sites located just outside of Turn 5. All of the sites have electricity and water hookups. Each space has a level, asphalt pad with picnic table and firepit. The Chaparral Campground contains two bathroom facilities, one with hot showers. The area is suitable for all types of campers, and there are a number of "pull through" sites for larger RV's. See the Track Map for the location of this campground's position relative to the track.

FYI you guys, I got a mailer from Mikes Bike's about their mega-sale coming up this week. Eddy, if you're interested, they've got BB7's for $70/wheel. You might look at hooking it up

Thanks Matt.....I'm planning on going there tomorrow to get my bike. Talked to the sale rep yesterday and he said to stop by on Tuesday. I may do that, my new bike has V-brakes but is completely set up for disc (Fork, frame and hubs are all disc capatible).....really want disc's. When it rained Sat, my Cantilevers became useless with water and sand.....it sucked.
I take it you plan on checking out the sale too?
