They're fairly easy. If you start from the school by M&M in GB, ride out, there is two hills. One is fairly steep but not long, the other is pretty easy. Once you get out to the trails by the parking area t Folsom lake, there's only one major hill, which isn't steep at all, it's just sort of long. Before I got hurt I could jam up that hill in the big ring. Technically, some of the trails can be, there is granite slabs off to the sides of some trails, in some areas it can get tight, but it's not hard by any means. One of the cool things about GB is that it's challenging enough to keep interesting and makes a great weekday ride.
Here is the GPS data from the last ride I did out there: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/3061025

Really there is only one hill that really sucks. There are a ton of intertwining trails. We rode around for like 4 hours yesterday, taking little detours and looping back and stuff. The only thing that sucks is that there is a fair amount of sand. Kinda hard on the bike, I would imagine. It is like beginner level, but interesting enough to keep us coming back because of the single track and a couple of fun little woopy drops and rock areas.

The sand freaks me out. It seems bad mostly on the jogging path between the school and the parking areas though, where it's deeper and at the bottom of hills mid-turns. I nearly ate it on those spots a few times. Going too fast probably

I had no troubles with traction in the sand yesterday.
Just caked by bike.
<------------ happy camper.
I just traded my Spec. S-works LK's for some Eskars. I'm running them at ~35psi with stan's and did not washout once. I was like Spidey through the sandiest corners.
I tested them gingerly in the morning, then pushed and pushed and started riding faster and faster through out the day. My buddy mentioned it when we stopped to rest. He was breaking loose and on the brakes. I was just carving and smiling.
They are definitely more work to pedal around, but the payoff in traction is worth it. Me likes FATTY tires at low pressure. It's like poor man's FS.

The really loose dirt over hardpack scares me more than the sand, but I know what you mean too.

The GB "big hill" is pretty wussy compaired to some of the hills around Auburn. Especially that cliff that climbs up to the Foresthill bridge. Several of us have suffered through that one before. And going down is so steep it makes your DISK BRAKES smoke!

GB is a good place to ride without suffering.
Roger that. I'm always afraid I'm going to lose the front wheel.

Climbs
Speaking of hills, I rode Olmstead today with Bert. First we did it counter-clockwise and then clockwise. That climb up from the stream going clockwise is one tough hill. Those of you have ridden it know that it's not only very steep, but it just keeps going and going.
So that made me think, what is the hardest climb in the area? My candidates are: Olmstead climb from stream, Olmstead the climb after you take a left at the T when going counter-clockwise, Connector climb, the rocky climb on the FHLT, the death climb up to the Foresthill bridge and come to think of it that climb up Fuel Break isn't all that easy either. Any other candidates? What is your vote?

The climb from the bottom of 49>Stagecoach>Upper Stagecoach>Flood>Mossy Rock>Foresthill bridge>Fuel Break.
So if you count that as one climb that would be the hardest in my book. Second would be the rocky FDLT section as you stated. It's sometimes hard to keep focus on that thing for me. Plus my bike climbs like a 4x4 (slow and steady).

My vote in order:
Those are my top three. I have a feeling that when I start riding again my response will be "*.hill" :\
- The hill climbing up to the foresthill bridge from mossy rock
- Fuel break going from the bridge to the connector trail head
- Connector climb (only going towards FDLT, the other side of the hill on the way back isn't that hard)
Those are my top three. I have a feeling that when I start riding again my response will be "*.hill" :\
