I've been out of the loop the last couple of days, so I thought I would report in.
I rode the FH Loop on New Years day. It was much muddier than I expected. I rode it instead of Olmstead because I thought it wouldn't have much mud. WRONG! Most of it wasn't to bad. The only tough spot was the hill that climbs up to the road just before the upper parking lot. Remember how bad that thing was last year? I barely made it without falling over. I was real glad I had my mud tires on.
I'm up for riding GB anytime your doc says you are ready Matt. Because of the fairly sandy soil, GB shouldn't be to muddy even with all the rain we are suppose to be getting. Olmstead will probably be almost un-rideable after the big storm.

Even though I know we need the rain, I'd be fine with a bit more drought so I can start riding again. I hope the trails are somewhat dry by February.

5,000 is a lot of miles. Years ago when I was doing lots of road riding I usually did around 4,000 and that was riding almost every weekend and as much as I could after work during the week. A wife and kid tend to cut into your riding time too.
The bike looks great. I love carbon road bikes! :RockOn - not mine:

Right now in the foothills it's clear, but we have no power. I have a generator running so we can have the necessities like the refrigerator and computer.
The problem is the generator only last about an hour and a half before I have to shut everything down and fill it with gas. You can't fill is while it's running or it spews gas everywhere.
I can't keep the generator running all day, so I might go riding if it stays clear just so I don't die of boredom.

So I finally got in touch with my doctor today. His PA has been gone OOTO for a month. She said she's fielded a lot of complaints about the people who "covered" for her. She's awesome though and got me answers while I was on the phone.
So.
I can mountain bike again

Doctor said to avoid any aggressive riding for a bit, so I suppose I'll stick to GB for a couple of months. Should still be good enough to get in some miles and get some weight off me. I'm super excited, but a little nervous
.
I'll take my bike in for a clean up/repair this week. Weather permitting (how slick is GB in the wet, and how muddy is it now?), we on for 2/2?

Well, I dropped off the Epic this morning. Mike's hooked me up on the service so I picked up some new tires too. Got WTB weirwolf for the rear and exiwolf for the front (maybe the other way around I forget) in 26x2.3. Should give me a little less twitchy handling and better grip - i want to minimize my falling risk and these will be better in muddy conditions than what I had
.
Also found out about a group ride going on at Mike's tomorrow morning, so I'm gonna hit that up and do some roadie action with them on the American River Parkway Trail. I'm so excited to start riding again! Gotta stop drinking and eating steaks all the time now though. Well, I'll commit to lessening the alcohol, but I like my ribeyes too much

I'm eating some food, watching myth busters, and my phone rings.
Caller: Yeah, Matt? This is Kelly at Mike's..um, I don't know how to tell you this, I've never even seen it happen before, actually. Anyway, I was taking off your cranks and the bottom bracket shell completely separated from the frame.
Me: Uh. Ok. So, what does that mean?
Kelly: Well, you need a new frame.
Me:

Kelly: Nah, I'm just kidding. Hey, some other work came in and since you were saying earlier that you didn't need your bike today, is tomorrow cool? I just wanted to ask since I told you I could do it today.
Me: .............So my bike is ok?
Kelly:
Yeah, I'm just messing with youJerk

lol, nice.
Looks like at least Josh and I should be out on the 2nd, and I'll see if I can get Scott too. Fat guy squad has to stick together (I'll be breaking in whatever bike, and Josh will be breaking in his back), so that way we're not holding you guys back if you want to roll at a faster pace, but can still get out there and be social, lol. Do we meet at Mike's, or what?
