Did a pretty cool ride today.
Started at the bottom of 49 and then did: Stagecoach>Upper Stagecoach>Flood>Moss Rock>49>Clementine>Fuel Break>Culvert>Confluence. And I'm spent!!!
Only ate it twice. Once on Moss Rock right before the place where I lost it last time Randy, Matt, and I rode it. And then on Culvert @ the log drop. Someone had done some trail maintenance and they felt it necessary to put very very loose dirt at the log drop landing zone! So I drop the log and land in the loose dirt and slide out instantly getting scratched on my leg and rib cage.
Other than that, great ride! Conditions on the trail (other than the above) are awesome! Great weather, tacky trail, and good riding

I went one the FATRAC ride yesterday. I knew I was in trouble when I saw the guys that showed up. They looked lean and fast. None of the usual slower guys were there. I could not keep up at all. I wish some of you guys could have been there so I would have had somebody to ride with.
I think I'm going to stay away from FATRAC rides unless I can get back into racing shape or know that somebody will be there that isn't super fast.
Mike, I wish I had seen your Sunday ride at Granite Bay sooner. I would joined you.

It's been a week since my last 'update' post so I'll make another.
After that first ride, I had some soreness in the front of my leg, but I toughed it out the following day (with a bit more limping than I had been). Since then I've gotten my speed/cadence sensor working, developed two workouts in Garmin training center that I load up for my rides, and made huge gains in strength and flexibility.
I've been tracking all of my rides in my main spreadsheet (as usual) so that I can track my efforts and progress. I'm doing well on the bike, pushing myself every time I get on it. I have a long and a short workout, the long is a 40 minute ride with a cadence of 65-75 (I can alter resistance by changing gears) and the shorter is a 20 minute ride with cadence between 80 and 95. After riding for the past three days, I'm thinking of starting to do the 20 minute ride every morning before work and the 40 minute ride on alternate days along with the weight lifting I've been doing.
On the walking front, things are going really well. The biggest issue I've had when walking is that the lack of strength in my leg (my calf) was preventing me from "pushing-off" with the ball of my foot when I took a step. This caused me to limp. From all of the riding I've been doing, and the new exercises my PT gave me, I'm almost walking normally (very minor limp, good speed and fluid movement). The swelling in my foot has also receeded enough to let me wear my normal Pumas again, which feels awesome. My size 14, courdoroy grandpa slippers were neat and all, but the Pumas make me feel good.
I think that if I stay consistent on my riding and ankle exercises, I should be getting back to good strength in a month or so (maybe two, I really don't know, but so far I've made big gains very fast). My next appt with x-rays is 11/28, and if we see bone-growth then I will be stylin

We ended up taking it easy, but it is a great set of trails. I am still out of shape.

We took off at around 8:45 and were done by 11:30 with a lot of little breaks and detours.
We stopped pretty much every time the trail split, and did a rock-paper-scissors to see which way to go. Turned out okay.
Thanks for the directions, Mike.
We'll probably skip next weekend, but we are going to try to do an every Sunday kinda thing if anyone wants to go on a REALLY slow ride.
ebay bonanza!!!
x.0 twist shifters
odi lock-ons
x.0 rear derailluer
xt front derailluer (because the bolt seized on my old one and just sheared clean off when I went to remove it)
all new cables and housings
dt swiss 4.1c's that are going to get laced up on my old CK hubs
dt tubeless kit
sram 9spd cassette & chain
avid bb7 front disk
I scored an old, beat up Noleen Mega Air and nursed it back to health
and I put some fenders on to block all the flying horse poo I've been running into lately
I think that puts my frame up to v.3 on components since the mid 90's
I need to just bite the bullet and get a full suspension frame. I think we were the only people at GB that were riding hardtails.

and they're plenty of people still riding HT's
I had a really nice old Outland FS frame and a crappy old Voodoo FS frame and I miss both.

I'll definitely take pics when I am done. If it wasn't obvious enough, this last ride has proven that 3 gears are not enough. And there weren't even any real hills. At least these rides should feel easier when I finally have 27 gears instead of 3. I cant' get my wheels built up quick enough!!!
