I used to ride lots of indoor trainer a lot during the winter. It does help a lot with your conditioning. If you get other people to ride with you, it's not so boring. It is sort of like a group ride without the scenery.

I'll be riding some, but all indoors, obviously. Egan gave me a stationary trainer to use while I recover, so tonight or tomorrow I'm going to put my road bike on it and get pedaling. I've seen dramatic improvement in my ability to walk (unassisted) since Saturday and my leg is feeling stronger every day. I spent 15 minutes on the eliptical trainer on Monday and Tuesday and didn't have much trouble with it (even keeping my heart rate around 150). I'm really looking forward to doing some exercise - I'm getting even softer than I was
.
.

I'll leave my cell on.

It's been a week now (actually 8 days) since I started walking unassisted and driving again. Every day I'm walking better. Every day I feel stronger and my leg feels more flexible. I'm still not 100%, but I don't expect to be. It feels so weird to be back to "normal". This weekend I got caught up on a few things I'd been neglecting for four months, like cleaning up some cabling in the living room, cleaning up my PC, helping around the house, etc. It feels awesome.
The main update to this week is the trainer I set up. Egan was nice enough to let me have his while I recover, so I got it all set up in our spare (catch-all) bedroom:

I rode for 30 minutes yesterday, keeping my heart rate up and feel like I did really well. I actually didn't stop from fatigue, I stopped out of fear of overdoing it on my ankle. No soreness or pain last night or today though so I'm going to start trying to do an hour at a time, hopefully each night. I hooked up the wireless speed and cadence sensor to my bike for the Garmin so I should be able to get accurate speed, distance and calories data!

bro-in-law did fine for his first time out.I have to say, first couple of tiny hills counter-clockwise kicked my ***.
I'm out of shape. Add to that I only had 3 gears.
Time to get my geared wheels built back up.
Got to try out my new-to-me shock and it RULED. I think 100mm is too much for my old xc frame, though. I'll have to stick the spacers back in to get it down because the front end was lifting on the climbs. Old geometry ftl. Of course I was coming from an ancient Judy DH with springs. hahahha.
Weighed my bike at Cambria on the way back for ****s and giggles - 23.2lbs.
My guess was ~25-26...

very cool!
how's that park?
i was gonna take the bike over there at lunch, but they charge $2 to ride now and require full armor and full-face(?) from what i've heard.
didn't feel like driving over, gearing up, paying $2 just for 20-30 mins.
it looks kinda small w/ not much to it. looked more like a little kids' BMX obstacle course.
but maybe it's worth it.
That was actually before the movie
The park is pretty cool but it takes a lot of energy to run the course on a 8" travel bike. The skills center with the wooden plank system is fun. It's still being built up and I think they change the course a lot.
If you go on a weekend I heard it's pretty packed with kids...so we went on a Monday and there was only about 5 or 6 other kids around. I think it's worth $2 bucks to ride...we stayed for about 3hrs after work until closing back in Sept.
