FYI, dude, I've heard it's REALLY smoky up there this week due to the fire. Hope you have a good ride though .

May not be too bad on 80 side. Guess I'll find out. If it's too bad I'll just come back down to Auburn and ride my 7mile loop

Hey Matt, did you happen to take a photo of the stairs @ the school yesterday?

No, sorry, dude, I didn't have my camera with me. I'll bring it along next time I ride GB

Lance - I was thinking: next time we ride GB, I'll not only get a pic of the stairs, but one with you flying off them

Lance - let me know your schedule. I really want to hit HITG on a weekday while I'm on PTO. Maybe Monday 7/9 or Tuesday 7/10?

I'm gonna try to get in a bunch of sweet riding while I'm off. I'm thinking of trying for my first century too

Well I did HITG today. Started at 2:15 and finished at 5:15, so 3hrs. That included a few breaks and walking up a couple of inclines. Right at the beginning of the ride my crank arm came loose so I had to stop and fix it. I could tell something was weird because my chain started rubbing on my derailleur, which never happens. Anyway, fixed that and kept riding up to Boreal. Ended up with a few more scrapes as well from going down (but not bad, just the normal can’t get the foot out of the peddles quick enough scrapes).

Riding that trail alone is kind of crazy! You‘re out in the middle of nowhere and all you hear are insects, birds, water, and the trail under your tires. I kept thinking I was gonna see a bear or some crazy guy hiking. Oddly enough my cell phone was working

I did see two other guys at the trail head to HITG. I got there in about 40~45min and was resting a bit before I hit the single-track. One guy was on a SS and the other I can’t remember. Both nice guys, we talked for a couple of minutes about the trail. Then I said late and that they were going to pass me pretty soon so I better get moving. So they passed me on the switch-backs and I didn’t seem them again until after the decent and right before the 1st stream crossing. They were walking up this technical uphill when I came around the corner and cleared the section. They said nice job and that I made it seem like nothing. Anyway, I kept going but I never saw them again. I figured they would catch me again on one of the climbs but no signs of them. Guess it’s possible they had a mechanical failure or flat.

Had a good time today, but it was a grind for sure; that trail is no joke. Remind me next time of two things: 1) Don’t bring my full-face helmet (very hard to breathe with the full-face while climbing to +8000 feet); 2) After I finish bombing down the stair section at the end of the ride don’t lean bike up against leg (rear brake disk was so hot it burned me).

No smoke...It was all good

I'm interested, but just don't know when yet. Next week is bad so it would have to be the following. Tuesday-Wednesday-Friday works best for me.
