SRIC Mountain Bike Crew!
Geez. Exciting bike commute this morning.
Get to work: I didn't remember to bring boxers. Also forgot my belt. Effin A.
I'm going to the bike shop now with a coworker to buy a new tube and more Co2
. I still had a damn fun time though.
- Mile 2: Pump bounces in to wheel when I go over a bump (I recently mounted my pump on my seat stay - this was the second ride with it, the first ride was no problem). Spoke of wheel slices the valve-head of the pump, making it worthless. I look across the street and see a dumpster. There goes $50.
- Mile 14: Sacramento Wheelmen morning ride enters trail. They ride slow. Takes me about two miles to get past their whole group. They were all really friendly, but they killed my momentum. If they had been going 19mph or so that would have made for a sweet finish to my ride (no wind resistance!).
- Mile 16: When I passed the Wheelmen, one of their guys jammed up and pacelined me. I didn't know he was there (iPod was on so I don't know if he called out his presence or not) so when I went to slow and move for a jogger, we nearly hit. Nice.
- Mile 18: Crossing Coloma in Rancho Cordova I pick up a staple
. Insta-flat, two miles from work. No pump, thankfully I had my Co2 in my bag. Pull out the staple, replace the tube, reinflate, bead pops off
. Slowly reinflate with second (and final) Co2, good to go.

So are we on for Olmstead at 8am this Sunday?
Also, question for when we do Tahoe rides (which I think we should be prepared to plan out when we ride this week): What time will we meet in the morning? Or will we stay local up there and have the freedom to ride all day? If cost were an issue we could split a room or camp or something.

enough sleeping room for a bunch for people if you bring your own sleeping bag

i would think, go up Friday night, spend the night at the cabin, hit Mr. Toads or Tahoe Rim, etc...then end the event on Sat at the Pacifica buffet in harrah's/harvey's.

I held a 2007 Specialized Tarmac Comp down at Mikes tonight. Oh, man - that thing weighed next to nothing and was gorgeous. I didn't ride it out of fear my credit card would suddenly burst from my wallet and I'd come home with the thing. That bike is gorgeous :naughty:
I might try to pick one up towards the end of the summer. It will make my commuting faster!!!

This is pretty cool. My stats for the past month (taken from my GPS uploaded to the PC):
267 miles since the end of April (I got this on 4/27) and 20 hours spent in the saddle
. That's pretty good given my work/school load. Average speed sucks, but my mtb riding brings that down (avg speed on the roadie is ~ 17mph). 22,334 calories burned - that's awesome. 12702 feet of climbing

For some reason I thought you guys were switching to Saturday...

I can fit 2 on the roof and 1 inside...or maybe 2 with front tires off.

I'd be cool with it. Would be neat to do something new. We need to set it up ASAP though in order to get it all going.
My wagon can really only fit one bike on the roof (with disc brakes) given my current rack setup. With different trays I could take more, but I'd be fine with giving gas money and riding up with someone.
What say you!

As far as hauling bikes, my van will hold 4. It only has 2 seats though. So if somebody can haul people, I can take one person and lots of bikes.
We could meet in the parking lot of the Raley's grocery store that is at the Foresthill exit.

It might be a little on the exploratory type ride since none of us have been on the loop. May have to stop and read the directions or check a map or something. Matt, can you upload the purposed loop into your GPS and then if we get off track it would alert or at least show where we need to be?

The ride has about as much climbing as Connector + FDLT, but it's shorter by about 1.5 miles. It's not very rolling though - you climb like crazy for the first six miles or so, then it's a little rolling for the next four, then three miles straight down and a dirty climb at the end.
