not messing, Turbo's blowing oil
running on 7psi wastegate boost(safe mode) until I can replace the turbo or part out the car...
I am having a serious dilemma guys. I am thinking about the cars future and future costs and I am seriously considering parting it and selling it. Just off the top of my head it needs: new turbo(td04) or STI upgrade(TMIC,Inject,vf39), going to need clutch soon, 105k timing belt maintenance. So about 3000k in future issues(that I can think of). I can probably make about 2k back parting it I owe 4k and can sell it for 7k. But then what would I drive? I sure as hell can't afford a new subie..
My Brain is in a knot thinking about this ****.... plus side is it put down 178 awhp on the wastegate only(MBC at 0) LOL

Wait... did something happen on the dyno?
My opinion... You can probably do the clutch labor yourself. You've shown you're a capable hand. So you can get yourself a decent clutch for $500. Have the wheel resurfaced and be out of pocket about $600 after fluids.
TD04's are CHEAP. If all you're gonna do is a stock replacement you can find them for $150 ALL over NASIOC. Easy peazy.
Timing belts are about $600 in parts. Do it yourself.
But what I'd say do is worry about one thing at a time. If I let myself think about all the **** my car needs I'd have a melt down. It's the name of the game unless you're gonna go out and by a brand new car.
SO....
RIGHT NOW. WHat do you need? A turbo? That's $150. Go get a turbo and put it in. Go get tuned. Enjoy the car and stop buying ****. All the stuff you bought recently would have paid for 1 of 2 of your major maintenance issues. IT's way easy to get caught up in modding.
So spend that $150. Get your car back to running correctly. You'll stop feeling like ****. Then start putting money away for your maintenance issues and buy parts to get it done. Whichever comes first. Fix. Then do the same thing over again for the next one. It means no more modding for a while, but that's life.
That's why my wagon is pretty much exactly the same as it was 5 years ago. Weddings, kids, etc. ****'s expensive.
That's my advice. Don't loose faith. Just fix the turbo and go get tuned. I've been saying FOREVER that these TD04's go faster than people think and no one believes me.

I here what your saying though.... I can drive the car like this for a while till i can get a new turbo. I'd really like to get my hands on a td04 out of like a low mileage 06 or 07 rex, dont want the same thing to happen in a year LOL
Married with children and a house makes it way hard to put money into hobbies. I use to spend at least 30 or 40% of my income on "fun" now I spend about 4% LOL

Me too man! All I can say is that Ed is a super cool dude! He only charged me $95 for the dyno pulls and was straight up with me. He could have tuned it for $400 and let me annihilate my turbo. At least I know what I need to do now...

Damn dude you scored!!!!!
I have a feeling I'm out an exhaust. Which pisses me off.
You can get newer turbos with low mileage for under $250. Seriously though... I'd get your hands on a cheap one. Get it in. Get your car running correctly. At least you'll know exactly what the issue is/was. If you want you can put away some funds for a turbo/injector upgrade so when this one lets go you'll be ready for an upgrade. For $500 you can get a VF34 and injectors. Killer upgrade.
I've seen TD04's go for $100. I'm surprised Ed didn't have one to put on right then and there.
This one went for $100 and had 40k on it.
FS: (For Sale) FS: WRX TD04, Throttle Body/IACV - NASIOC
This one is $130 and has 10k on it. Hell I might even buy this one.
FS: (For Sale) Large lot of misc parts fp green, td04, blue 565's, Sti PS pump Perrin crank etc - NASIOC

I think I would want to inspect it myself... It would suck to get it in the mail and find out it has shaft play etc...
I put up a WTB post in the classifieds, we'll see what happens....
