Springs?

what are you going to do about your springs? The recon guys are going to check for Bounce and alignment as far as your suspension is concerned...the license plate mod is simple cheap and fast...just need to raise the bottom of your plate so it sits 12" above the ground...no need to worry about your drop...

Remember, if they tell you your suspension doesn't pass the bounce test...nicely remind them that if they weighed 3000lbs...they would be able to deflect the front end fairly easily...trying to push down the front end of a sports car with 200lbs of effort might not move it much (a Ryan recon technique)...

give me a call if you want...

I bought the wrong springs cause I was in a hurry to get them when I was moving here and when I got them on, the car was way too low. I should have just put the stock ones back on but I was rushed to get the car to the shippers. Anyway Im gonna call Ryan today and I may give you a call sometime so I can make sure Im doing that plate mod ok.

I PASSED! Yay!

Here's what I learned:

-When you go to recon (even without a drop) they will check the height of the bottom of your fog lights as well as your license plate. As such, (even though they're stock) you should take them off for the recon inspection.

-CF Hoods DO PASS RECON...but they have to still utilize the factory "Double Latch". What I mean is that you click it once (one latch) then you click further down (latch two)

-They didn't listen to my exhaust (not that it'd be too loud) but they didn't.

-They didn't check my suspension compression or whatever that is when they push down on your car...they DID want the alignment paper (go to Lyndsey's Auto Repair they're good and cheap).

-Watch the placement of your safety stickers! They have to be horizontally aligned and on the rear passenger bottom bumper of your car.

from what I gather its list all of the aftermarket parts on the vehicle and to make sure that it is safe to drive. The guys who have been here longer probably have the 4.0 answer tho

^^^Well...the information in this thread is HI specific...some states may have something similar but HI's Recon Inspection is the most infamous.

Basically, there are certain things that you do to your car like drop, rims, exhaust, etc. that fall under this category and the state feels that they need to check that these modifications are safe to operate on public roads.

Funny!! this is the second I have heard of this. The first time I thought the people were full of ****, now I'm reading this.

How does it work? Does any car with mods have to pass this inspection? Right now I have an 05 STi with just an Intake and HKS Carbon Ti cat-back exhaust.. its soon to be a catless TBE once my Helix Downpipe gets here along with my Cobb AP..

I'm kinda worried about cruising through Waikiki now, guess its a good thing I avoid town at all costs, can't stand the traffic!!

Anyways where do I go and is this really necessary?

It's necessary if you EVER drive in Waikiki or if you get pulled over by cops

Read the rest of this thread before asking that kind of stuff...it's $15, the place is near market city (search the internet), yes, you should get recon for the exhaust just to be on the safe side.
