silencer removal

Everyone that posts on this site should be required to take that thing out. Subaru should just get rid of it completely. It doesn't even get that loud with out it, just a bit noticeable. People who complain about the noise aren't the type to rev the engine over 4000rpm anyway.

I have an 02 RS. I was looking over the posts for silencer removal..... and I am lost. The WRX is CLEARLY different under the hood.... but wouldn't the "GC8" have the same internals as my 02 RS? (both EJ25 right?) any help? do I have a silencer to remove in the first place?
thanks,

I'm pretty sure the 02 being NA will not have the same intake system. You have an MAP not an MAF so your silencer is all under the hood and not in the fender at all. My 99 has an MAF and is similar to the WRX in that it has a snorkus in the fender. In 00 they went MAP no snorkus in the fender from then on, NA wise. Some Cali cars have the MAF though in 00 but the quantity is limited.

You still have a silencer, but it's different. More like say, a Snufalupogus. It can be removed and replaced with something like a Cobb or Lary Ganz type intake. It's a lot easier to do. No need to remove the wheel and drop the liner to get the Snorkus* out.
