I have a MY 2000 Subaru Impreza RS sedan and I am having a problem. I am noticing a hesitation around 4000 rpm and higher in all the first three gears. I live in New Jersey and it's been very cold lately - maybe around 10 degrees the last 2 weeks. I was told by a friend that it might be the weather.. or that it might be a case of bad gas. I already tried some (techron) fuel additive to no avail. The first time I noticed the symptom was right after exiting one of those brushless car washes that used high pressure water all over the vehicle ( yes, even underneath). Ant help would be appreciated. By the way.. the car is stock. Thanks.

your not alone
I also experience the same hesitation problems, along with a flashing 'check engine light,. It starts and stops at any given time. I also have a MY 2000 Subaru Impreza RS sedan , and live in NY. It seems like COLD WET weather has been the problem. Dry gas hasnt helped. Dont know the cause or the solution. I havent been to happy with my Subaru it seems like something is always in need of a fixing. I am having second thoughts on picking up the 2004 WRX, or Subaru for that matter.

check your ignition wire to ignition coil pack connection- most likely
its very corroded. If it is, clean the coil tower with a fine sandpaper untill you restore its brass coloring. About the wire(s)
well you have to replace it or them. The cel is flashing because of the current cyls misfires - if you correct the root of the problem it will reset itself in a few driving cycles.
_good luck
