No nitrous will not blow your motor if set up correctly. Also pe1820 does not have good spool time when compared to the stock turbo or even the vf34. I would go with the vf34 if your looking for less lag or even an pe1818, if you have a chance to drive someones car that has a vf22 or a pe1820, it would help you decide whether or not the lag on these turbos are too much for you. Oh and the green is gonna give you about 2200rpm of usable power in the standard wrx.

VF22 dont have a good reputation for durability. The 34's are a good fairly cheap upgrade. If you looking to get good spool time and long life and reliability with great power gor with the PE1820f... and if you want to biuld your car to be a monster and are willing to go the extra mile with the mods consider an fP green.

Not to mention all the mods you should be doing before even considering jumping right into a stage 4 setup.

Once again, I disagreed on the fact that VF22 is laggy. Depends who and how they tune it.

Read this please...

P.S. The dyno #'s are very low because they were using that goofy Dynapack Dyno.

Tuning on an 98 GS-T: (Dont do this you gonna Blow your motor :P) This is an safe setup

Stock motor
boosted to 15psi and sprayed an 35wet shot with an K&N cone adapter and an catback. Gained 235hp and 251tq

baseline was 195hp and 190tq. So u be the judge.

A/f at baseline was close to 10:1 with the increase in boost pressure and the 35shot a/f went to 12:1. So yeah easy way to make power will blow ur motor right if u have an proper engine mag with the proper plugs u can do it.

I understand your point. However there will be no "oppinions" supressed here to day so keep the personal comments out of it.

I've seen enough N20 motors blown on otherwise "properly setup" daily drivers to know better.... mostly by kids looking to cut corners. And of all the people that I know that have WRX's and STi's I dont know anyone who runs N20 .... especially when a stage 4 gives you over 300 whp on an EJ20 motor. So to throw N20 on a car to make "easy" power increases when my stage 2.5, which makes more than your quoted "Gained 235hp and 251tq" on the bottle just plain doesnt make sense. Especially when making recommendations about turbo's to people who are basically stock.

when I was in my mid 20's I use to buy cheap beater honda's that had no real potential and spray them. But to spray a car with such potential and pathed upgrades im my oppinion would be against the whole idea these cars are so much fun to work with and tune.

It's all good though ... to each his own.

Peace.

Hate to dig up a week or so old post.. but.

How much money are you willing to spend. What type of drivability are you looking for. Do you beat the ever-living-**** out of the car on a daily basis?

From personal experience. I have driven my car hard.. i mean real hard.. beating on it everday since it hit ~2k miles...Knock on wood I don't break something.. but I know I will.. and I'm not saying you should do what I do. But honestly. I drive my car and beat it like it owes me money. I use it like a subaru should be used.. off-road. I take it to work every day (I do framing.. been working new construction in the middle of no-where on a dirt road for the past 8 months).

The vf22 in my opinion is an excellent choice for bottom of the barrel price with mid-grade performance.

I have a VF22, out of the box.. no port or polish.
Helix Downpipe/Txs UpPipe/Brullen Catback
Greddy FMIC/Airinix Intake
Helix Catch Can
Denso IK22 Plugs
Sti Injectors
Walbro Pump
Perrin Air Inlet Pipe
And a UTEC.. with a few borrowed maps on it.

Car put down 308.9whp, 314.2wtq. Power comes on at ~3650 rpms.. drops at redline.

Everyone complains and says my setup is garbage, cheap, not right, whathaveyou. But the little wagon that could, can and does. Bottom line.. its all up to you; everyone has their opinions. Try everything out, if you don't like it, return it, or sell it and move on.

If anyone doesn't believe the numbers or how nice my setup moves out.. thats fine and dandy.. pm me and we'll go for a ride.
