Question Stock EGT Removal Question

I removed my stock EGT sensor in the up-pipe and used a resistor fix. Would my exhaust gas temperature be too high and not be able to detect it?

Yes. This isn't a good idea to do if you still have the stock uppipe with the cat in it. If your EGT probe went bad and you've got the stock pipe, get a new one and install it. The resistor mod is only recommended when a catless uppipe is installed and the probe is no longer needed.

i have a catless up-pipe. so the egt is there only to check if the pre-cat is on fire? are there any other reasons why the egt would be there?

When you use the resistor fix, are there any disadvantages/problems with just leaving the disconnected stock EGT sensor in a catless uppipe?

There is some rumor-like concern that the sensor *could* break up and totally snarf up your turbo. That being said I've never read a post where it has happened.

Personally...I just went on the safe side and plugged the hole. M12x1.25 bolt (as short as you can find) and some high-temp threadlocker will do nicely.
