Help? Weird metallic sound at hi-revs above 5000rpm
I have a all stock 04 WRX wagon with about 16000 miles on it and lately I've noticed a metallic pinging sound when I get on it (above 5000) rpms. I only notice it when I accelerate fast. Any ideas? I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to engine stuff. It definitely doesn't sound like your normal pinging that you may get with bad gas. And yes I only run 91oct fuel. Thanks

Is it like a constant tapping sound? If it is, a lot of subies do it, although I've never heard of a wrx doing it.
Possibly your heat shield on your cat? I had that but I took my shield off and voila! That only made the sound when I would rev the engine, btw.

Sounds like pinging to me. Use up all the gas you have in your tank and then fill up again with 76 if you havent already and see if maybe it was a bad batch of gas. If it keeps happening take it to the dealer ship and tell them you think your car is pining.
