wrx clutch change. help

i'm in the process of changing my clutch on my 02 wrx and ran into a problem. how do you remove the rear shaft (i think that's what it's call) that is contected to the transmission and goes all the way back to the rear. I've look everywhere and couldn't find a write up on how to remove that thing. please help!! thanks in advance.

Removing triveshaft is easy. You just unbolt it from the rear diff (4x12mm) then remove the center bracket that holds the middle of the shaft to the chassis, then you just pull it out of the tranny. Make sure you drain the tranny first, as if you don't you gonna have a liquid explosion all over yourself.

Sorry guys, I finally had some time and started to do my clutch change and run into another problem... I remove all the bolts and the starter from the transmission, but it won't separate from the engine... Any of you guys have any tricks on how to separate it? Thanks

I thought the starter was attached to the transmission. Are you still talking about the 02 and up impreza's?

I had to give mine a couple taps with a rubber mallet just to break it loose.
