when is time to change your clutch and/or flywheel

besides when your it starts to go bad, when do you need to replace it?

ive been noticing that theres quite a few people have probs. with the 4th and 5th gear. i have been fortunate enough to not be one of those individuals who has experienced that problem. but i did make start thinking about my transmission. my car has seen the red line a few times, but only for track (been there about twice) and on the highway due to the fact the i have been experiencing some lost in boost (just trying to collect data). other than that i baby my rex when driving.

i drive about 40mi about every other day.
never ride the clutch.
shifts at 2300 - 2800.
sometimes at 3000.
rarely anything above that.

list of engine mods-
hks uppipe
hks down pipe
aem intake
greddy fmic (just installed)
hks bov (just installed)
apexi tt

future mods soon-
vf34 turbo
boost controller
greddy oil catch tank
*with the future mods i was also planning on replacing the clutch and flywheel, but need more info.
upgraded ecu.

so with the stuff i have on my engine now, would i have to replace any tranny parts?
after future mods?

thanks.

you only need to replace your clutch once it starts slipping. and it sounds like you baby your car so much that it will be a long time before that happens

hahah...i hear ya.

dunno how much this helps, but when my car was brought to the dealer, they looked at my clutch....after 36k miles, they said i still have 70-80% of my clutch left.

if you do the math, that's another 100k on the clutch...i really doubt i can get 140k miles though....maybe 100k-ish?

Yes it will be noticable. You'll see the rpm climb as you give it gas but the car itself will accelerate very slowly.

I dont think the rpm you shift at has anything to do with clutch wear, its how you release the clutch. I have always ran my car kind of hard but I dont abuse the clutch by slamming gears. My supra had 80k before I had to replace the clutch and I even shifted at near redline without releaseing the gas a couple of times (not too many times). My rex has 41k and still feels good. With the mods and $ you have put in your car you need to enjoy it alittle more. run it hard (not redlineing it in every gear)and be easy on the clutch. Your car wasnt meant to be babied like that its a Subaru WRX not some car made by the big 3. Buying a WRX and babying it is like paying for a hooker and just haveing some good conversation and then calling it a night.

try posting a new thread and you might get more feedback. Include things like the milage of your car, if it happend after dumping the clutch or did it slowly develope. Try to give as much info as possible so the people reading your post can try to help. Hope its just the clutch (I would think so).

Good luck

gogo_yubari, soudns like you got a few years before you need to replace the clutch. My friend had a car that had a clutch that lasted like 6 years. i think that's pretty long... my family has never experienced manuals, so i don't know for sure...

hmm... your mods won't really kick in unless you use the gas pedal some more.
but then again, hawaii.. not a lot of places to speed.
