reverse gear is messed up

ok yeah yeah i know that everyone has problems getting into reverse. my car has that problem all the time...but today my reverse developed a new problem out of no where. i was backing out of my gf's driveway, and as it was going backwards i could hear a ticking noise. i was like wtf? so i decided to go to an empty parking lot and just reverse and see what was up, and i could hear the reverse gear grinding, whining, and ticking very loudly. it is very abnormal. i know that reverse tends to whine, since its a straight cut gear, but this whine is the same whine except 5 times louder. as for the ticking and grinding, it almost sounds like a broken gear, but reverse engages and disengages without any problems at all. i can get in smoothly, and drive in reverse slowly. my other gears(1-5) are completely fine. no grinding or anything at all. do you guys have any clue what may be wrong?

i have the exact problem as this guy did in this thread:
https://www.i-club.com/forums/showth...t=reverse+gear

i have never pushed or abused the car in reverse in any way(im not a dumbass) nor have i dumped the clutch in reverse before, so i dont understand how the reverse gear can break...

how long is the warranty on my tranny? 60K? should i hit up santa cruz and try to get my tranny fixed there? if its just the reverse gear(which i think it is), is it possible to just get that gear fixed? i hope im not gonna have to fork out any money for this, because if i do, id much rather buy an RA tranny or save up for a 6 spd conversion.
