hey have any of you guys seen these dog boxes here on www.xcceleration.com? well what do you think, i already blew one tranny in my 04 wrx, and some how got the dealership to cover it under warranty, basically its because my family has bought 6 cars from them and they sold a brand new hemi charger to my brother that week, but anyways i figured i should just go and buy a good tranny before i get to crazy and blow this new one... Do you think a set of these gears would be worth the money, either the straight cuts or helical? is there any benefit to either, i know the straight cut are a rough engagement, but what is it going to do to the rest of my driveline like the diffy's and cv joints n such... What about the 6speed swap or the ra swap, are they wort it!?

In our experience, STi V6 RA gears are good for up to 300-350whp. They come cryo treated and are 1mm thicker. Since the gear ratios are shorter and close ratio, you'll get faster acceleration in all gears and even from a roll on the highway.
If you plan on having more than 350whp, I would suggest a STi 6 spd transmission swap as they can hold a lot more power. Our tuner is running over 450whp and his 6 spd swap has done multiple low 11 sec. 1/4 runs with no problems. If you need one, we have a non-DCCD 6 spd in stock which is stronger than DCCD 6 spd trannys.
Thanks,
Preston

Im definately interested in the 6spd non dccd tranny. what else does it come with? will it include all the parts nesecary to swap a 5spd to a 6spd or do i have to pick up one of those kits that is nesecary for the swap? also will i recieve the sti lsd or can you get those for me?
We only have the 6 spd tranny right now and not the whole rear end (R180 rear diff., hubs, axles, Brembos, etc)
You can always get this:
-6MT Drive-Shaft
-3.90 Ring & Pinion Conversion
Thanks,
Preston

yea man its quite simple really,
I had a couple little bolt ons, mbc, etc. nothing crazy, i had i towed to the dealership and told them i ****ed up, when the tranny went i wasnt racing or anything, i simply down shifted into 2nd at about 30mph or so and there was a loud bang and pop. i said the usual choice words and called road side assistance. i was honest with the guys at the dealership, told them yes ive raced my car before about 5 times no more, never auto-x or anything like that, launched it hard twice and that was it, they said they appreciated the honesty and said they would do what they could do. what they wound up doing was covering my rebuild and making me pay for the throw out bearing, thats it, on the invoice it says something to the effect that it was not a warranty coverage but was a good faith service the damage was covered due to driver abuse, street racing, or modifications, and subaru was not liable and my warranty on the transmission was now void. i had to sign an agreement and all that jazz that no matter what happens to the tranny they are no longer responsible, which is fine with me cause they foot'd a big bill for me. now part of the reason they covered it. I bought my car from the dealership, my mother bought her h6 vdc outback from them 3 years ago, and they are also a dodge dealership as well as a motorsports center for motorcycles jet skis etc, and i got my gsxr 1000 from them as well as my brother who bought an srt4 and 3 trucks for his buisness and his personal truck and my father was on a waiting list for his hemi charger at the time... so as you can see they wanted to keep my whole family happy, i wasnt expecting them to cover it and told them i understand its my fault and was willing to pay but they did me a favor which is why im gonna get my next car from them too regardless... i guess im just really ****ing lucky, and i know it, everytime i go up for an oil change i thankt he warranty guy for it. But the other side of the note and i wish i had done this when i broke the tranny anyways, im getting it rebuilt shortly with V6 gear sets from an RA Spec-C, so if you cant get it covered you might as well call up Gruppe-S or Rallispec and see if you can get your hands on some asap because they are well worth it if you drive it hard, or modify it! just my two cents though... sorry if this doesnt help you but thats the story!

i dunno about anything on the cheaper side... i got my v6 ra gears from gruppe-s and they did a deal for me for all the syncros and bearings, plus a act street disc, good for about 400awhp and the 9.2lb fly wheel... if your gonna do your clutch n tranny might as well do flywheel youll definately notice it and will enjoy the extra exceleration... well the whole thing ran about 2600 and change with free shipping, theyre in cali and im in ny... i dunno what it will run to hi though... check them out, i dealt with preston there personally... or you could try and pick up a dccd or non dccd 6spd but you have to do the r180 rear diff and the brembos with it... well you dont have to do the brembo's but you might as well... the whole set up will cost a nice penny... i plan on doing this longer down the road after i get my crawford short block and heads and run a gt30r... but like i said thats about a year or two out for me... just go and look at all your options, i recommend the act its working great for me!
