Gti R32

R32 has a lot of potential. the HPA stage 2 version can run 0-60 in 3.2 sec - more than half the time of stock. of course, the price would almost triple

Yeah the R32 (not a GTI) is heaver, better quality (IMHO), and "less bang for the buck" but remember, this is a normally apirated VR6 3.8L engine. Imagine what you could do with turbo or supercharger.
Have you read a recent automobile magazine report, an HPA modified twin turbo R32, under warantee (though might be tough to enforce), that could do 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. 550 HP. Granted, it doubles the price of the car, but still cheaper than E55 or RS6 and you have a 200MPH car!

So what does that mean ? In the future mods will be cheaper (just like they are for all cars) but where you have to tweak a WRX or STI that has already been modified for performance, I believe the R32 is just eager to be modified and your starting with a good base (plenty of torque and HP potential).
I also believe that the new GTI's will be out in the future with up to 400HP from the factory, they're just going throught their growing curves and the bulk of their sales are European, so they don't need (at this point) to cater to Asian or American markets.
I used to own a VR6 GTI (97) and I miss the fit, finish, quality, interior, sound, paint, and luxury compared to my WRX. But... I must have AWD !!
I would be a lot happier with my WRX if it had more torque (I'm a hill climber) and better interior. The STI isn't there yet.

Car Info: was 05 WRX Wagon
I used to have a Audi 1.8T Quattro w/ an APR 91 oct. chip. At the time I bought it, it was a toss up between the Audi and the WRX. I went w/ the Audi for one main reason, IMO it was a cleaner looking car inside and out. It is true that the WRX is a better bang for the buck performance wise. However, the Audi 1.8T was the best bang for the buck in the luxury category. You can't go wrong w/ xenon lights, leather interior, heat warmers, and just the whole build quality (Audis have the best looking interiors right now) and $12K less than what my friend paid for his 330CI.
I guess what it all comes down to is an individual's preference. At the time I had the Audi, I was looking for luxury. I switched to the WRX because I wanted more performance The only car I think that has a perfect blend of luxury and performance is the other boosted boxer, the Porcshe Turbo (definitely a car I can't afford yet).
