1st off, that is a 2.5RS in the link you showed us. You can get a fine example of one of those from anywhre from 7k to 13k (depending of course on age, and milage) As far as a WRX goes, except to pay 17k for one in good condition, and probably the lowest you could get away with is 15k.

IMO, go with the 2.5RS. Yeah, its not turbo'd, so it isnt as fast. But you wont get hit with humongo insurance costs that you would with a WRX. Plus, you can get a coupe, and the GC body style is MUCH more sexy IMO. Plus, if you do an engine swap you could have a homemade USDM GC STi, that is as fast or faster than a USDM.
Cheers
-Jeff

P.S. - This would have been bettered answered in "Suby Shopping" fourm. But, since I'm a nice person I answered it here

If you can live/want a automatic then jump on it. It is one of the VERY VERY VERY rare Green 2.5RS' sold in 1998. If I lived by there I would buy it, especally with the milage which is tiny. The only thing you should look into first is a later model (2000 preferably) 2.5RS whch has a slightly more refined engine, especally if you are dishing out 15k. You could probably find a 2000 2.5RS coupe manual for about that price. But on the other hand it is not that beautiful green...mmmm

I can remember when I was 16 and wished for wheels: my advice: get an older car you can work on, learn to change tires, oil, transmission fluids, brake repairs, minor body work, etc., and save your money. Soon enough you'll be of an age when you can afford the insurance, buy the car of your dreams and enjoy it. You may also find an interest in s-x and such, all of which tends to cost $$ and time.
(Just kidding!)

Old Subarus are great, new Subarus are great basicly as long as you go with a Subaru you're golden. Which one you get depends on what you want to do with/to it. Either way if you have time wait for the perfect car to come around. The most important thing is that you're happy with it and it does what you need it to. Good luck.
