Its as bad or worse for some fwd cars, in which the entire engine needs to be dropped to get to the transmission... 9hrs. Imagine that at a dealership, yuck

Could a clutch replacement be done at home? Are there any special tools needed?

My integra was simple after awhile.

Gruppe-S, MPJ & Lic. That's your choices. Don't chance it with rookie shops.

I have posted a thread about this place before.....I took my truck there for a complete Transmission upgrade/overhaul....and these people did an absolutely OUTSTANDING job! They kept me informed throughout the entire process, and called me daily with updates.....They completely rebuilt my entire tranny with custom ordered heavy duty parts, and had it all done in less than a week, including ordering the parts.....so a clutch should be a breeze for them.....they were very reasonably priced, and by far the best customer service I have experienced to date.

http://www.btstransmissions.com/

I HIGHLY recommend them for ANY tranny work that needs to be done

Talk to Mike Talerico, tell him that Ted (With the Big Blue Chev. Tahoe 4x4) sent you down, he should hook you up.

Here's a link the the thread I posted about them awhile back when they rebuilt my trucks' tranny....

edgar,

why not?? I Know in my trade (auto body) shops charge $62.-$70. hr. I believe mechanics are the same or more.

Gruppe-s and MPJ both do awesome work. Check with them to see who can fit you in sooner. I wouldn't go to anyone else...but thats just me.

my concern is more towards the claim of 6hrs and the labor rate well if its a certified mechanic working on the car it would justify a heafty labor rate like 66-100 bucks an hr... but well ill leave it at that

say its hard, dont do them dont lie
tia
edgar,

ps im lot blaming nor insulting anyone inparticular just everything in general

Just because someone has a piece of paper saying they are "certified" doesnt mean they know what the hell they are doing. What you want to look for is the persons rep. How many times they have done the job and other related jobs, how long they have done it for, what thier customers say...ect.

You have to remember...they are a business, ofcourse they are going to be a bit competitive. If you want to find that guy who can do the job for $250. go for it. He may have a certificate...but you might be his 2nd customer, that will give him the experience he needs to raise his price later. Plus, think of the times you might have to go back, and ofcourse the probem according to him...will be the products fault, so you will more tham likely be charged again...so on and so forth...get the time consuming picture???

Not saying that will happen, but something that needs to be considered too.
