i don't get it..
i put my new clutch in and it works fine.. then all of a sudden its slipping again... i have 50k miles on it and couldnt believe in the first place that my clutch had gone out so soon... then when i pulled my clutch out it hardly looked worn, so i figured it was the pressure plate, got a full kit and got it all in...
so now the throwout bearing, disk, pressure plate, and flywheel bearing have all been replaced.. and now it STILL slips.. and what sucks is i spent a good amount of money on this and that wasn't even the issue! so now i am thinking i should bleed the clutch just to make sure.. and other than that, i have NO clue.. any ideas would be very appreciated!!

hmm, bleeding it prolly wont help, since air in the line would cause the complete opposite problem as slip (not fully disengaging) is it already broken in? it might be a little slick at first till its all bedded together..

i got the flywheel resurfaced. not 100% sure what it looked like but i believe it was very smooth with spiral shapes on it from where i was shaved. but it was very smooth.
and jeremy.. it's just weird to me cause it is doing EXACTLY what it was doing when i thought the clutch was going out.. do you think the slave can be messed up and is getting stuck when i pull the clutch back out? maybe its not retracting all the way giving the clutch partial grip and sometimes it is going all the way back in, being the time when the car is in full grip no slipping.
it is just too weird that its the same behavior as before... nights and mornings it tends to slip then middle of the day when its warm outside it doesnt slip...

heres what it says in my book. hope it helps.
"Slippage occurs when the clutch disc is not gripped firmly between the flywheel and the pressure plate. It can be caused by an oil-soaked or worn disc facing, warped pressure plate, weak, diaphragm spring, or the release bearing contacting and applying pressure to the release levers"

well i don't think its any of those, although the release bearing making contact with the release lever is interesting. although it doesn't sound right how could that possibly be happening.. all of a sudden. and right off the bat with this new one.

Greg, I assume all the parts got properly cleaned before being installed...? Possibly the pedal needs an adjustment. If there is a slight bit of play, then it's probably fine.

what is the booster? the linkage where the pedals are??
i thought you shouldnt have to adjust this with a hydraulic system?
and adam what do you mean by play? you mean if i push the pedal down a little bit before its actually getting that firm feeling disengaging the clutch?
thanks for all the continued help guys!

I know that it is a single-mass type unit, but are you even able to resurface a subaru flywheel?
When you resurface the flywheel contact surface, you lower the "height" of the surface in relation to the raised bosses on the flywheel, around the periphery of the contact surface, to which the clutch cover/pressure plate bolts to.
If those bosses are machined down to compensate for the resurface of the contact surface, does this negatively affect how the release lever contacts the throw-out bearing?

this happened to me recently also. I put in the new clutch and it started to slip from day one. My problem was that the pressure plate got warped and i had hot spots on my flywheel which indicated that the whole clutch wasnt engaging properly. Most likely this was because of imporper brake in proceedures. I replaced everything and broke the clutch in properly and now everything is ok. Thought i might throw that out there. Hopefully thatll help

i replaced my whole assembly for the clutch. and it was slipping then and now so its hard to say.
and as for resurfacing the flywheel, the guy did it to spec so it shouldn't be causing slippage but you never know. also this is slipping the same exact way as before i changed out the clutch. it is doing the same exact crap.. slips sometimes and doesnt slip others.. i notice if it is cold outside it tends to slip and if its hot/warm outside it will not slip.. like right now its driving around fine...
i am thinking that the slave cylinder is getting stuck halfway when retracting away from the release fork. thus causing the clutch to only have partial engagement when you pull the pedal out.
hmmm and now that i think about it.. the warped flywheel sounds kinda interesting cause i did notice the occasional vibration coming from the clutch pedal when pulling it out during a shift.

so what i am gonna do just for the hell of it is replace all the hydraulic fluid. see how that works, if it doesnt help i am gonna replace the slave cylinder, and if that doesn't work.. i will be completely stumped because from what i can see is nothing else should be having an affect on this..
but something else weird, is my clutch still catches at the very top of the pedal as if it was really worn out... maybe there is an adjustment.. even though i know its hydraulic, but it doesn't seem right that a brand new clutch is grabbing at the top.
agg the saga continues!

I was gonna attempt my own clutch change with a buddy, but after reading your woes for the last week I'm gonna get a shop to do it instead. Sounds like the whole process has been a PITA

it is truly worth just having a shop who knows exactly what they are doing do it.
but i dont think my issue is with my clutch itself.. i have this weird feeling its the slave cylinder.
