There is a lesson here for everyone, but calisuby you have to take the majority of the blame.
First, even if you went to a shop, I would bet you would be in the same situation if you took the same steps. From what I have gathered, you bought a used engine and asked people to test including the OP/mechanic. There is no shop that would guarantee that the engine is good working order and assume all responsibilities for a used engine that you found (tested or not). Too many variables for them to take on the liabilities. In fact if you took it to a shop, there would be the fine print that says you supplied the parts and no warranties on your supplied parts.
OP did work for you and got a working engine together from two different engines. Then something happened? And now it's being towed to a dealership that your uncle works for? Hmmm... why didn't you just go there first? I am bet that between the shops, dealership and the OP, the OP was the cheapest and the one with the least amount of ground to stand on.
Now the OP is out of money, sounds like labor and costs for parts and other services (machine shop, etc). You ignore his communication attempts and this is where the situation stands.
The cheapest route isn't always the best and if you do go the cheapest and there are question marks, understand those and assume the risks. Be a man and at least pay for his out of pocket costs and work out or pay him his labor.
OP, change your business practices. Get a contract, collect your money, get a business license, etc. If this is a business, treat it like one. Helping some one install an exhaust for beer is one thing, rebuilding engines for thousands is another.

That's beside the point. He should not have given you the car back without an upfront payment in full. You agreed to pay him for his work. From there it would have been between you two to decide how to sort things out. Instead you are using a favor he did for you against him. Did you ask about any labor/part warranty before you got the engine? Individuals doing work at reduced rate under the table don't offer any, that's just part of the risk. Hell, most performance shops don't even warranty motors. Though it sounds like he was more willing to work something out than you were.
I do find it odd the tech did not mention in the thread or to us the car was broken down awaiting repairs after 3 days, I came out understanding the car had been fixed.
Also both of you should know better than to drive a car with a added EWG/TGV deletes and a new motor with no tune or without bothering to at least look at the logging. Duhuduhuduh

did you lose your phone for two weeks? Your right we don't know the whole story, but honestly i find it hard to imagine you have an excuse for not returning a text or a phone call for more than two weeks. That alone makes you look sketchy and is the main reason this thread was made.I feel like if "you" were the one who got ripped off you would have been more than willing to text him back and explain why he isn't getting the money you owe him.

This is a funny thread, i hope everything gets workout. I have heard that Hengmans work is really good and he is a subaru mastertech or something so I don't think i would doubt his work. Take time and skill to get to where he is, plus his car is SICK!! i voted for you at BAM
I agree with you sir. I did give Anthony the opportunity to work on my car... He is a SUBARU tech. I am not and that's why i asked him if he can check if the engine is good.. Since he would know what to look for and test.. He said he could do it. That's why I allowed him to do the work.. Still gave him 1800 on top of the 2500 engine.. Got my car back a few weeks later... Day three the car does not stay on and idle is bad.... I tell Anthony about it the following day since since it happened at midnight after work (too late to call him) .. He was aware of my towing situation.. He said it was too far of a drive to co e check it out at hat time.. I told him the car was at my work in Santa Cruz and couldn't be there too long.. After having the car there for 3 days my uncle offered to tow it for free to his work (dealership hooked up the free towing to the dealership in Monterey).. Uncle said it might be something simple so he would get his buddy from next door (Val Strough Subaru) to check it out when he got a chance..... It's been there since. ANTHONY knew this the entire time as I kept him informed.. Then after I towed the car to the dealership he offered to check it out..I cannot pay Anthony for a car that's not running. My plan was still to pay him off .. But my car went down hill on day three.. I drove the car safe...after not having it for months the last thing I wanted was for it to break down again. I had plans to drive it to BAM to break in the engine.. I know some of our are friends with Anthony so will automatically take sides.. He is a good guy I have nothing bad to say about him but he did promise me certain thing for a price.. Wich I lost out in... I lost out 5k vs $970 should I take him to small claims? For not giving me a working engine? Or telling me an engine is good before I buy it and turns out to be bad after the purchased... It's a messy situation that should have been fixed by us two.. This gets neither of us nothing..
just for fun you should add in fuel ,coolant, gaskets, ect ect since your bithcing about small ****. you paid for a service which you didnt pay and for that you are a jack ***

stop avoiding people and communicate. there's no legitimate excuse for the breakdown between you two.
