Manslaughter is usually only a couple of years. No matter how much of a dick the dad probably is knowing he helped cause his son's death has to mess him up.

I wonder what he was thinking when he bought the car.

<Dad> .o(alright, how can I counter this boy's hair and small weenie? time to buy a vette)

There is a HUGE surprise.

Ok my take on it is this...

Parents: WTF were they thinking? giving a 18yo a corvette, this had accident/death writen all over it

Kids: Sorry I have ZERO pitty for him, he got what he deserved for being a snot nosed punk. He had no biz at all driving like a tard. The ONLY thing I feel bad about, is that the little ****head had to take someone inocent out with him.

It looked like he was turned about 1/4 turn, not completely sideways but not straight either.
Umm... Drifting?

I would have done it...

I agree it is totally the faul of the Parents, though he was 18, he was obviously still acting like a kid.

i got my wrx couple months ago and im only 17. i think its the responsibility of the parents to know when thier child has reached a point of maturity where they can make proper decisions.

the kid was an idiot. period.

This is where you have an opportunity to make a difference. I find myself in the same position from time to time, with parents buying an STI or a WRX for their CHILD, and coming to me looking for accessories and such. Every chance I get, I mention the BEST accessory they can purchase for their CHILD is a professional driving school, like the ones held by Skip Barber, Bob Bondurant, Russell Racing School, etc. to teach teenage driving survival skills.

Just putting the ideas into their head about the realities of turning their child loose with that much horsepower, with such a meager amount of training usually gives them a reminder. Besides, with your involvement with auto-x and such, you might try getting them a free entry into an event, and turn them to the responsible side of using the car the way it was intended.

People are naive enough to believe that anyone has a conscience anymore. It's silly to believe that this guy would even bother thinking about it more than a few months after all the legal issues were settled, and whatever punishment was meted out had been dealt with.

I doubt the father is going to lose much sleep over it for much longer than it takes to accept the consequences of his negligence.

I was about to say something to him, but he went on and on about this car. He's complete lost in the "**** yeah man, I'm gonna work on this car with my son, and he'll learn how to work on cars, and he'll appreciate the work we put into this" kinda deal... I'll pass judgment on the kid right now... he's going to total that car.

how is wrecking your first car a right of passage?

my first car was a POS 1981 buick skylark that my parents bought from the little old asian lady up the street. it was a bucket, but it ran and it got me back and forth to college.

i did do a number on it though by being stupid. my buddy and I were doing a little "circle track" racing in a dirt lot his parents owned. he had a '75 el camino. we blew out my front struts and the torque converter, and took the rear axle off his truck.

hella fun but we got in hella trouble. we both had to pay for every cent of damage to both cars AND re-grade the lot.

Parents DO NOT do the above.

And you're right, Parents are ****ing stupid these days, but their adults already... only the law can take care of them now, society can't really parent them.
Thats what my parents did to me. I am still alive. I plan on doing the same for my kid.

YOu get bad grades for nto doing homework cuz you were playing video games... the xbox disappears.

Speeding ticket. car goes away.
