True - that tire looks like it has a lot of life left! I had a similar situation at America's Tire @ El Camino and Grant/237 when a friend wore the edges off a set of pretty new tires (front only, car had a solid rear axle) borrowing one of my cars for a while. The tires were in great shape and still had the mold nipples on, but the outside edges of the fronts were worn (1 mo commuting up/down 9 - no rotation + spirited driving). I put them on the back, and took them to the shop thinking they could swap them so the inside edges would be worn (non issue on a solid axle car). The guy looked at the tires, didn't even get down and peek under, saw the edges and stood firm on not touching it - all he could do for me was sell me a new set. I had purchased the tires from them as well as my previous other street tires for the last 4 or so years... I guess it's a liability thing, but still dumb.

Racing slicks do not come with tread, this is probably why they are called slicks. There are R-Compound tires that come with tread, that are NOT geared as rain-only. I understand that you cannot back down from your point, and that is fine - but there is no point to continuing this - feel as right as you want from here on out.

As far as thread content, we are saying the exact same thing.

FYI your RA-1s will last a lot longer if you have them shaved, unless you are doing light laps and not driving hard enough to chunk the tread blocks.
OK, we are saying the same thing about DOT R-compound tires so I don't see why you are talking about how R-comps b/c the RA-1 come with tread... I don't see the relevance of why R-compounds come with tread in this discussion of tire safety. They are faster without tread but that is a given, we both know that.

That and my RA-1's are heat cycled even though they were shaved, they are "heat cycled" compared to brand new ones but my point was and still is, tires that are heat cycled are not dangerous, and streets resist heat cycling better than really ANY r-compound, even the mighty RA-1 that seems to be good forever... so beyond the tread bars=still 20% of life left, like a previous poster said... that is all.

I don't know what it's worth *shrugs* So if anybody can tell me what it's worth, I think I should probably post up a shot of my tires and condition.

I have a single RE070 sitting here but I think it's got way way too much tread. it's damn near brand new.

After trying 4 shops with no luck, I just caved and ordered some R-S2's from America's Tire Co.... =/ No one will patch it, due to the wear on the outside edge... ah well, I've heard good stuff about the 'kooks.
