So let me get this straight... These restrictions only apply to people leaving from Heathrow and then only on JAL? Wow.. That highlights the stupidity. If you leave from Gatwick, you are OK. If they did the same things everywhere - then... It might make some sense.

next thing you know the airline concession stand will be open in the back of the plane with $25 popcorn and $10 bottled water

It's a knee jerk reaction, I agree. This will be the big craze and then in a couple months we will go back to worrying about shoes or hair clips or the bomb shoved in someones butt crack. This will fade with the breeze and be long forgotten. It's just the way our society operates. The military does the same thing and I'm sure many businesses do also.

What does an liquid explosive agent smell or taste like? Are you going to test it for the guy next to you when they ask. I know I sure as hell wont. I think they should give out more drinks on the flight and then there are no issues. As far as personal hygeine items, put it in your check baggage and use it once you get off the plane.

So we cant bring our own stuff into the movies or a sporting event and its all good, but when it actually comes down to safety we all want to compain. Just drink the drinks from the little cart and watch the movie they show and relax. No matter what you do flying sucks so just suck it up a little and arrive alive.

NO, it's not OK that we get charged $7 for popcorn BUT I understand why it is that way. For the theater to buy a movie it costs a bazzillion dollars and they don't make money on the movie, only the things they sell. This is a problem- they shouldn't have to pay as much as they do for a movie.
As far as the bringing stuff on the plane aspect-It's an over reaction, If a put a knife in my butt and they find it will they start searching everyones a**hole??

The idea is to do everything you can to make any potential person realize there plan may not work. Adding the doubt into their mind may be all it takes. Its not that they are scared of dying, yet scared of being caught....then the whole plot is a waste and exposed.
FYI....a light has never been a prohibited item. Lighter yes...and thats federal law....not a rule.

YES it can be anything so why not put an effort toward figuring out WHY! there are people who do this, rather than sifting through haystacks of billions of possiblities.
