I hate how its such a big deal when the event happens and about 2 to 3 months later everything is back to how it was pretty much. I agree that we need to be proactive, not reactive to the situations that are arising.

It's pretty sad that I can't bring a bottle of water on the plane. If a take a drink can I keep it?
I wouldn't want to "profile" because that's not nice BUT we need to start profiling!!! Their have been a few exceptions to the rule like Timothy Mcveigh but for the most part you could find the majority of risky people just based on what they look like. If you're last name is Muhammed, you should expect to get flagged at security and you shouldn't be offended. You should be more than happy to comply and to show that not everyone with a middle eastern name is a terrorist.

Hey nice turbin can you step over here for a second. You have been selected for a bag search. Thanks have a nice day.

so since im black, meaning im of African descent, and Libya ( a nation we arent "happy" with ) is in Africa, should i expect to be profiled? i mean shiet, since im mixed i even LOOK Libyan. ive been mistaken for Cuban, Muslim, Polynesian, Mongolian, Israeli......one dumbass lady even asked me if i was part Chinese, and said i had almond shaped eyes... it could be anyone.....

watch, the next nation to do shiet to us is gonna be Canada. it ALWAYS comes from where we least expect it.....

EVERY one of the 9/11 guys was a stereotypical "terrorist" if looks were the only factor. Most NOT all people fit the profile. It is not going to catch every terrorist but it will limit the gaps in security. A random bag search does nothing more than annoy people. We do random bag searches in the Navy and they are nothing more than a show.

I don't think that people from Libya have the same skin tones as an "African"
Egypt is in Africa and they don't have near the same skin tone as say..someone in Mauritania or Chad.

Profiling won't work either, make a better rule, and they make a better criminal. Last time I came from the UK (last month) I was looking like hell and wearing a hoodie and a beanie. My friend was dressed in a nice button up shirt and had just shaved. They pulled me instantly, and let him go through. The security guard was a very young 'Doogie Hauser' sort of guy and he said MANY things that were just plain out of line and stupid. Since I knew I was clean, I went along with everything he asked (searching both bags, going through everything). I noticed several areas he didn't search, and gathered that based on my looks, he expected to find an ounce of cheeba in my bag or something. He made comments along these lines repeatedly. Simply based on my looks.

What did I learn from this? Take the time to spruce up a little before walking through security. It was entertaining to say the least, and fun when I got to call him on every stupid comment he made. He started with "as long as you don't have any goodies for me, this should be pretty quick."

A terrorist could use the magazines to paper cut people to death and/or cause bad infections, so of course they are definitely out of the question.

Might be a hassle to wait in line at the airport a little longer, but if it means catching the next guy that is going to blow up a plane and kill a few hundred innocent people so be it.
Or thousands, QFT!!

I think that is the main reason a lot of people complain about added security measures. It is a PITA for sure, but if it keeps someone like my mom (who I dropped off at LAX today for her trip to Canada), or your mom, or anyone's mom; from coming back in the same amount of pieces (being 1) as when she left. I'm all for it.

It can't suck much worse than being in a seat for 11 hours wondering if I will even be able to do my job when I get there.
if you will be flying out of london heathrow , sorry

JAL statement:

Increased security and restriction of carry on luggage at London Heathrow Airport

Thank you for flying Japan Airlines.

In accordance to directions received from the United Kingdom Department for Transport, we wish to advise that the following restrictions have been placed on carry on hand luggage for all flights departing from London Heathrow Airport.

Applicable Flights
All flights departing from any airport within the United Kingdom (both International and Domestic)
Note the same restrictions will apply to passengers after arriving at London Heathrow Airport when connecting to other flights.

All cabin baggage must be processed as checked in baggage and carried in the hold of passenger aircraft departing UK airports.

Passengers may take through the airport security search point, in a single transparent plastic carrier bag, only the following items. Nothing may be carried in pockets:
- pocket size wallets and pocket size purses plus contents (for example money, credit cards, identity cards etc (not handbags));
- travel documents essential for the journey (for example passports and travel tickets);
- prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential for the flight (eg diabetic kit), except in liquid form unless verified as authentic.
- spectacles and sunglasses, without cases.
- contact lens holders, without bottles of solution.
- for those travelling with an infant: baby food, milk (the contents of each bottle must be tasted by the accompanying passenger) and sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight (nappies, wipes, creams and nappy disposal bags).
- female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, if unboxed (eg tampons, pads, towels and wipes).
- tissues (unboxed) and/or handkerchiefs
- keys (but no electrical key fobs)

Additionally passengers are advised that no electrical or battery powered items including laptops, mobile phones, ipods, remote controls etc can be carried in the cabin and must be checked in as hold baggage.

All passengers must be hand searched, and their footwear and all the items they are carrying must be x-ray screened.

Pushchairs and walking aids must be x-ray screened, and only airport-provided wheelchairs may pass through the screening point.

In addition to the above, all passengers boarding flights to the USA and all the items they are carrying, including those acquired after the central screening point, must be subjected to secondary search at the boarding gate. Any liquids discovered must be removed from the passenger.

Passengers are being asked to allow themselves plenty of extra time and to ensure that other than the few permitted items listed above, all their belongings are placed in their hold baggage and checked in.

We apologise for any inconvenience and ask for your understanding and cooperation that the additional security measures are necessary to protect the safety of our passengers.

Who says it is keeping anyone safer? If the current measures being taken really did make our loved ones safer, I would be all for it too.
