Update: Still figuring out how I can make it up there...
are you all staying at CircusReno on Friday night?
I'm thinking we'd head up there Friday afternoon - 4.5 hour drive from SF - then 9pm meeting. Sound about right?
Also, I guess I'll be buying that GMRS radio license I've been pondering ($85 for 5 years on the FCC web site)
How useful is the GMRS license, anyway? This rally is the first time I've heard anyone using it.

Bryan,
I'm heading out from Emeryville about 4pm Friday. I'm staying at the Super 8 Motel, because Circus Circus would not guarantee me a non smoking room!
Jane
P.S. check your PM's

I got an email from the Volunteer organizer today. Have all of you checked in with her? If not please do so ASAP as they still need more people to help out.
Go to the Reno Rally website http://www.renorally.com/ click on VOLUNTEERS and in the top section check RENO RALLY before you register.
Thanks!

I was looking at the registration and noticed they may be able to use a Web resource, which I applied for. Not sure exactly what I would be doing, but I am assuming it would be a site update.

That volunteers website is used to coordinate rally workers all over the place.
So they probably have needs posted there that do not particularly apply to this event, but we can always use all the help we can get for these events.
To give you some idea- Reno is looking to need close to a hundred volunteers to cover all of the positions, National events like Rim and Laughlin will deploy anywhere from 250-350 volunteers, while a WRC event like Mexico will probably use between 2 and 4 thousand people, yes that's 4,000 or even more.
Knowing how to work controls can get you int to all kinds of fun stuff, being a HAM radio person also can get you into some great spots for "spectating" as well as supporting these events.
And working them is a great way to get to know the competitors, find co-driving rides or even get hooked up with a race car, if you are so inclined.

The www.renorally.com site could use a little help -- it's really hard to follow the global navigation they have there.

Workers should make an effort to get to Circus Circus before 9:00 PM, as that is the time scheduled for the worker meeting, don't sweat it if you'll be a bit late, we'll all be there past 10 probably.
Be sure to bring warm cloths, temps in the day time will be in the 50's but it will probably be dipping down towards freezing by the end of the night.
You probably also will want to bring along some snacks, maybe even 3 meals worth, as there are no stores and not much in the way of amenities at all out on the stages.

I'll bring up both of our GMRS/FRS radios if someone needs a loaner. I can also bring up a full-sized spare if anyone still needs one.
Speaking of tires: I just got another flat.. again from a screw. This is the second time I've got a flat soon after incident-free days of dirt driving. Weird.
