So just because a car is 25 years old, you can't import it and have it legal?

And sorry I came off kinda strong, I might have taken your tone incorrectly (because we all know tone comes across really easily when we type, right? LOL).

Info-wise, we're on the same page; I never said they didn't lie about crash-testing the R33 -- they did lie to the feds, but the feds approved before they realized that they were being lied to. It was after discovery of the lie that approval was revoked, but by then Motorex had lied about the R32 and R34 as a whole. So I'm sure you can see why everyone believed Motorex when even the feds believed them and gave them approval.

And if you don't get that, then really: ezouza22 pls.
Oh crap... I didn't realize that was a declassification from 1999.. Lol I definitely understand the misreading of tones, I've done it many times.. haha Sounds like we are on the same page about the crash testing crap, but damn, I know nobody really has the answer for this but why the hell didnt the feds have a physical body at the location of the crash tests and watch them perform the crash tests. We waste money in so many stupid areas, why not with this area which is pretty damn important because it concerns the safety of "the people" lol

Importing or not, there is no such thing as the 25 year limit. That does not mean you can't make it legal, but I am sure making it legal would cost more than most people would be willing to drop on it (aka retrofitted, so reduces the value of the car, defeating the purpose). IIRC, smog is only part of the reason some overseas cars are not legal here. It also has to pass US crash and safety standards.

Of course, but as long as you can do it all yourself. It wouldn't be too bad I would think. Maybe a little frame work, chopping and welding, and finding the parts. A LOT of time thats for sure but maybe not so much money except maybe the certifications tests though.. Anybody know how much that kind of thing costs? Anybody on here that has tried crazy sh*t like that?

What does IIRC mean?

Vehicles over 25 years old are Department of Transportation(DOT) exempt from meeting federal motor vehicle safety standards(FMVSS). Over 21 years old are Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) exempt.
i don't know how trustworthy the internet is.

can i go to Canada and buy a 1997 Subaru Impreza WRX STi and drive it across the border and claim it's a 1997 Subaru Impreza? i've seen Acura ELs in the bay area.

I don't think you can do that unless you change the vin to a impreza that has been totaled in the states, but of course, thats illegal

The difference being an EL is basically an Accord, so it probably doesn't have issues passing everything. I've seen a few around.
