I have a k&n hp1008 filter. Don't tell me to not use it. If it "sucks" rsd wouldn't recommend it.

Amsoil full synthetic 5w-30.

Now amsoil guys, should I go OE or the signature series formula?
I asked earlier what car this is going into. sig series is a group 4 oil and oe is a group 3 oil. Does the car have a turbo? Do you race it? Group 4 oils/sig series is good for extreme temps. The oe is fine for most cars.

Id say just go with the oe amsoil. You don't need the signature.

No real reason for the Sig series unless you are racing it and changing it per spec.

K&N filter (1008) is just fine, despite what a few people will try to tell you that the "bypass" is wrong, it works just fine and has no problems.

I ran OE for a bit, then switched over the the signature series. I am actually waiting on some UOA to come back.. From what I have been seeing even at 3,000 miles my oil is still not entirely broken in. Now im running signature series but I am a whole different story.. I also used their filter but its up to you whether or not you want to use it.

I used Total 5w30 when I had the wagon. Just try an oil suggested by others out and do a used oil analysis afterwards. It'll be a good way to determine if the oil you're using is good for your engine.

Blackstone Labs

If you want to know if an oil is good for your car, try running it in your car and send it off to do an Oil Analysis from a company like Blackstone Labs.

I use Amsoil 5W-40 Euro formula and I get oil analysis done every other oil change and my car loves it.

It's a 2006. Also if you buy the yearly amsoil membership (it's $20) you get the wholesale prices on everything so the Euro 5w-40 is like $30 for 5 quarts.

I myself am using Castro Edge(formerly syntec) 5W30 in my engine, and have from day one of the build.

Also remember, filter is KEY, the OEM filter is not enough for a higher performance engine unless you are changing out things more often (like 3000 on the button). I would recommend on a personal level, the K&N filter.

Oh sorry, you said, should NOT be using it... I didn't realize that's so different from don't run it.

I find it funny that you downplay T6 but then run an out of spec oil filter like it's no big deal after emphasizing how important an oil filter is. You also state "All the "static testing" in the world means **** real world." So the thousands of UOAs of T6 with stellar results means jack squat to you because Shell says not to? (Which by the way, you have yet to produce any actual evidence of them saying it) Could you please explain your definition of "real world" is if it's not the oil being used in cars as daily drivers? IF Shell did say anything, it's just a CYA statement, because it is marketed and targeted as a diesel oil. They don't want any potential liability.

AFAIK, there is only ONE (two if you consider rebranding) oil filter not sold directly from Subaru that meets ALL OEM specs. (hell I don't even think the new Honeywell filters meet all OEM specs) Your K&N filter is not that one.
