Disclaimer: I take no responsibly for the following information is is pure fiction and should not be used by anyone at any time.
My bugout bag has the usual stuff in it, seems everyone has an idea of what that is. Here is a list of some stuff I have not seen mentioned. I did not read every post so sorry if I have repeated some people.
My clothing is not cotton, I see people posting extra clothing but keep in mind cotton sucks! It is soft but looses all its insularity property's when wet think wool.
Everyone seems to pack food. What if your supply runs out? Do you have the tools and knowledge to get more? I have snares and fishing gear in my pack, they are light/easy to carry and when properly implemented can yield lots of calories. Ok now you have snared some small game- my pack has a small supply of my favorite spices salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic/onion powder. I also have a jar of multivitamins to keep in good health when on a low calorie diet.
If your bug out plan involves a vehicle please think about re-fueling. Gas pumps don't work with out power. Please pack a good siphon hose and collapsible fuel tanks.
I see a people say they are bring a "first aid kit" What is a a first aid kit? Most people think a few band aids and some aspirin is all you need in a first aid kit, these people will die. Here is a list of some extra things to consider bringing in your bug out bag. This list is just off the top of my head I may have left some of the stuff in my bag out:
Surgical kit- Including scalpels, suture kits, iodine, diethyl ether (used as an anesthetic), lots of different types of tweezers.
Trauma kit- Bandages (duh) Hemcon, Quik-Clot, Celox and Zeolite: Blood stopping chems should never be used on the chest, abdominal, or on neck/airway wounds it can get into vital organs and mess you up. A trauma kit should also include a few Combat Application Tourniquets to be used only when the bleeding can not be stopped by any other means.
Medicine: anti-histamines, pain relievers, epinephrine, infection medication (Amoxil, metronidazole, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim), anthrax exposure medication (ciprofloxacin, amoxicillin, and doxycyclineany), activated charcoal, Sambucol/Oseltamivir phosphate (influenza medication) and prescription medication you or those in your party take (2 month supply)
Some odds and ends in my Bug Out Bag, I will leave the uses up to you. Caffeine tablets (anyone who is addicted to any chems should have them in there bag) playing cards, condoms, lock pick set, bolt cutters.

Sorry if this is hard to read. By the way my bug out weapon of choice is a .22lr pistol and rifle. Should be all you need to defend yourself and hunt small game. You can also carry a metric ish ton of ammo.

Glad this thread was bumped. I don't have a pack and I am going to make one now. My wife and I have a plan to take what we can and go to my parents house in the foothills. They have land and a stream and plenty of shelter. Also there are less people up there so easier to defend.

The one thing i find interesting is that a lot of people plan on heading to their parents/friends place. The only problem I've seen is that sometimes, those people's parents/friends may not have any survival gear. It's always wise to keep cache's of long term storage food and tools at all of your go to locations.

Don't laugh, I carry both tampons and 'maxi pads' in my BOB..why? because they are both great for major blood flow stopage. You can shove a tampon in a sucking chest wound and use it at a temporary plug so the guy doesnt bleed out.
