Oh $*#@ bag, do you have one?
The bug out bag or "oh **** bag" do you have one? If so, what do you carry?
Each of my cars has a backpack stuffed in the back. In it I carry:
1 pair of jeans
1 throw away rain pauncho
2 space blankets
2 pair of socks
2 shirts
3 days dry survival food (food bars, 3000 calories per day)
3 days water boxs (water for one person for 3 days)
1 good folding knife
1 good hunting knife
2 bandannas
1 first aid kit
Now on top of this I have a BOB in the house that is the same, but also includes food for 3 people+2 dogs for 5 days, water the same, ammo for main handgun, ammo for main hunting rifle, and ammo for the shotgun in it. Added recently, a water purification unit, water purification pills, 2 more hunting knifes, another empty backpack, dog leashes and harnesses, and upped the clothing for 3 people.
For the folks that do not have one, I am curious...why? we live in a state that gets huge natural disasters (earthquakes, fire, floods). It always pays to be ready to go.

I care. Before I was laid off from myjob which was around 8 miles from my house, the bag in the car was called a GET HOME bag.
Similar to overbear's list. But less food and water. Again. Just enough to get home where another bag for a real bug out... Or in case of BUG IN is needed...

Well my truck is the oh **** vehicle. I keep the following in it:
My survival pack (magnesium block, tinder, leatherman, markers, signal mirror, 100 yards of 550 paracord, water purification tablets, fish hook with line, whistle, compass, 8x10 tarp, 3 yards of tinfoil and a small medkit.)
Trenching tool (shovel with sharp edges for cutting/sawing)
Machete
Spare parts for the truck
Basic tool kit
6 MREs (I'm currently out actually)
a crap ton of zipties, duct tape and bailing wire
ratchet straps
about 100 yards of climbing rope
Eventually I'd like to get a solar panel for the roof of the truck incase of a run out of fuel and need to contact people via radio situation.
In every vehicle I carry
2 days change of clothes and a weatherproof jacket
a hat
a mag light or LED mag light
a folding knife
pair of boots
water container or some sort
I keep it light on the sti to save weight.

You remember you said that kid, when a big earthquake cuts off fresh water and access to food for a few days.
Smart people look to what happened in Katrina, they know the "government" isnt going to save them. Its up to each of us to save ourselves.

8.3 Earthquake hits the bay area, cuts off water and food to 70% of the people in the area. It is going to take 3-5 days for groups like FEMA to get fresh water production up and running strong. By day 2, people are going to be in fight or flight mode, you WILL have looting and worse.
The fact is, people, like yourself who are not prepared, are going to try and take from people like myself that are. Will I protect what I have with lethal force...you better damn believe it. When it comes down to it, my family/friends are more important to me than your life is, and I will do what must be done to protect them tell help can come or we can get out of the area to our evac spot (a ranch up north of the bay friends/family are all to meet at)
