Can anyone tell me why Cespedes is flirting with the Mendoza line this season? Based on what I saw on Saturday, there wasn't a single pitch he didn't like from Wainwright. Even at one of the at bats, he was out in 3 pitches.

Leaving and working in SJ makes that a really tough sell for me. Ive considered stuff like the weekend packages and such, but I only manage to get out there a few games a year. It's all CSN channel on TV for me

I have a few guesses:

1) Pitchers now have a book on him and know where the holes in in swings are
2) He's young and is still adapting to MLB here
3) Due to injuries, recoveries, and rest days, he isn't getting as many starts as a fielder as he'd like. We've seen him hit as a DH and he hasn't taken to it very well.

I think point 3) has an additional impact on point 2).

I think it's easy to say the guy hasn't come close to his celling yet and he just needs more time and experience.

A nice 2 hit shutout to ring in the 4th!

Straily had himself a damn good game. Balfour always makes for an interesting last out.

Can't remember the last time the A's played the Pirates. And I really can't remember the last time the Pirates were this good.

Cespedes needs to get his bat in gear. Pitchers are not scared of him anymore.

Yup.

Donaldson and Balfour should both be all stars this year. No question.

Balfour bests The Eck's consecutive save record!

Oh, and the A's stole a win in Pitt in the process.

I know the Pirates aren't as good as their record, but Straily is really impressing me. He was shaky as all hell in his first few starts, but he's really finding his rhythm now.

5 straight series wins for Oakland. A great way to head into the break. I'll be there this Sunday to see them play tha Sawx.

Man, I haven't been able to watch much of any game since Thurs. I was in Vegas over the wknd and have been playing catch up the last two days. I caught bits of highlights here & there as well as some of the radio broadcasts. Stoked that they're in such a nice groove! For just a moment, I considered putting money down on our Oakland Athletics to win the World Series. (They had 9/1 odds over the wknd.) But I thought better of it and didn't wanna jinx anything.

Lots in flux over the last several days. All-Star snubs of Donaldson & Balfour. Colon as the lone representative, but Melvin (and fans like me) would prefer he rest so Balfour can fill in as a well-deserved replacement. Grant Green making his big league debut. Cespedes picked by Cano to let 'em fly in the HR derby.

How do the sub-.500 teams like the Blue Jays, Royals & Mariners have more reps than the A's? Then if we include injury replacements scenarios, the also sub-.500 Twins & White Sox have more than one All-Star!

It'd be nice to catch a game vs. da Sawxx, but I'm in a wedding this wknd. Hmmmm... maybe I can swing the Sunday as well.

Thanks to AJ dealin 8 shutout innings tonight, tomorrow's game should be that much better to be at.

Cespedes and Reddick getting some weak singles to contribute. Anything it takes to get their bats going again.

Woohoo! Balfour named Colon's replacement in All-Star game! And another walk-off win courtesy of should-be All-Star Donaldson's bloop hit in extra frames.

Man, Workman was dealing thru 6. Glad Coco was able to break up the no-no, then score via Donaldson's towering, game-knotting HR.
