quick question for some of you cell phone gurus...since we can unlock the iphone 4 with itunes, is it still mandatory for at&t users to have a data plan with this unlocked iphone?

When I change my phone to something else from my iPhone 4, I wanted to know if I can give her the iPhone 4 and chop the old sim card to fit the iPhone 4 and still trick at&t that shes not using an iPhone. Any idea if this would work?

Thanks for the input. I did some more research. Basically my scenario is I gave my mom my old iphone 3g years ago and shes been using it with her non-3g sim card, which I guess at&t can't see that shes using an iphone.

Do it. Hands down the fastest phone (data/tech) i've ever used and i've been through a lot. With all the new roms and break through they are stumbling onto everyday it's going to be a crazy super phone. If you have AT&T or T-Mobile it's even more awesome out the box.

Well I'm on VZW so have to wait for the dev's a little with the locked boot loader but it's been like that for me since my OG Droid 1 which I ran over with an Evo!
