There's absolutely nothing wrong with Alain. I know him personally, and although we havent hung out in a long *** time, the dude is cool as ****. So many people take him the wrong way......

Just for info guys I went to SF yesterday...

I drove around most of city and checked out downtown, South SF, Daly City, Pacifica, Inner Richmond area, and Broadmoor area. After seeing much of the city, I decided, for now, that I don't really want to live in downtown - a little too "busy" and congested for me, even if it is conveniently close to my future place of employment. I liked the "feel" of South City, Daly City, Broadmoor area...so I figure I will try to find an apartment in one of those areas near a BART station so I have the option of catching the train when I don't feel like (or cannot) take my motorcycle to work. Thanks for all the input guys.

Oh and also, I ate a bunch of great food while I was there....

You shouldn't have any trouble finding a place with designated parking around/near DC BART station. With the current economic situation, the market is ripe for picking for both renters and buyers.

Good luck when the time comes. Hopefully you don't end up with a place next to loud neighbors. I had enough of punk & ranchera to last a lifetime - courtesy of downtown SF.

Hey OP, your budget will get you a 1bed apt here where I'm at (Skyline Heights). It's 10 min from either Daly City or South SF BART station. You'll get a designated parking spot that is covered, but not a garage.

Either way, your budget gives you a LOT of options here in this area (DC, SSF, San Bruno, Pacifica). I think Millbrae is mostly nicer, but it's a little more $.

You probably already know this, but do drive around the neighborhood of places that you're considering. Some areas you might really like, some....not so much.

The city is cool to visit/work but there is no way I would live there (well, maybe if I was making $100K+ and single).

I don't know your personal finances but $1500 a month is a lot for rent, that could be a mortgage payment.

I like the location of Skyline Heights. That's def an area that I will be searching for a place to live. The no garage thing is a deal killer though. I refuse to park my motorcycle outside (weather/theft/etc). I'd be down for a place with a secure underground parking garage too though. Although Millbrae is nicer, I don't think I want to venture that far down south just yet.

Yeah, I actually went up to SF this past Thursday and drove around the entire city. I got the grand tour from a friend that is from there. I definitely like the SSF/San Bruno/DC/Pacifica area more than other areas.

Yeah, I ruled out living in downtown after seeing it. Just too busy/hectic/cramped for me. I'm single, but I won't be making $100K...not within the first 2 years anyway. $1,500 is a lot? Well, I know it's a lot, but I figured in SF I wouldn't be able to get anything "nice" or newer with a garage for much less than that. I found one or two places with garages for around $1300, but they were a little out dated and beat up. I would rather pay a few hundred bucks more a month for a newer/more modern place. I know it could def be a mortgage payment, but I'm just not ready to buy right away. I'll be taking a slight pay cut when I move up there...coupled with the higher cost of living, I wouldn't be ready to buy a home for at least a year or two. Hopefully the market will still be relatively crappy (a buyer's market) when I'm ready.

Yeah, you definitely need a garage for a motorcycle. My neighbor has been okay with his bike, heck he used to have his kart there too, but I still think it's too risky, even for a gated residence.

Avalon Pacifica is literally on the other side of Skyline Blvd, and this was my 2nd option to Skyline Heights. You get a garage with the 1bedroom.

If I remember correctly, you can also pay extra if you want another parking spot.

They also have another location close by, Avalon Cedar Ridge (King Drive), which is slightly pricier for some reason.

I like Avalon!
$1355/month is not bad! Place seems really nice too.
I dunno if that includes the garage or not though...
It says "garage available" under "Community Features", which usually means it costs extra for a garage. Hmm, I'll give 'em a call and ask when the time comes.

Thanks for the info!

If you are renting from the apartment complexes, go through rent.com and get $100 back.
