Moving To Bay Area
Hey guys. It looks like I may be moving to the Bay Area (Walnut Creek) from Canada in the next few weeks for a new job.
I was just wondering if anyone could fill me in a bit on how CARB works. I would like to bring my 2000 2.5RS with me, however it is modded (i.e. turbo kit). I take it that I will have difficulty registering it in California? Will they want to inspect that car right away, or will they only inspect it after a few years? What happens if I return it back to stock (Canadian spec) -- would this pass? (though I may have a problem because I have a modded oil pan, no heat shields on the header with a EGT probe tapped --- I dont have original stock parts to put these back) Any problems there?
Also, I think one of my first purchases will be a 05 STi. Any dealers in the area you might recommend? What is the going sale price right now?
Thanks..

Diablo Subaru in Walnut Creek is great for sales...I bought my car there and I was very happy...Talk to Tom Anderson.
As for their service department...well lets just say their techs aren't trained to drive lowered cars with lips
As for registering that car....It will probably be a ***** to do in CA.

Looks like I might be outta luck on bringing the RS eh. A shame I may need to leave it behind
Another quick question for people around the area. Just looking online for places to live (rent). What other closeish towns/areas to Walnut might be good to look for slightly lower priced places?
Thanks again for the help guys.

Stay away from Lafayette and Alamo cuz they are $$$$.
Concord will be cheaper then Walnut Creek, but there are a lot of apartments in Walnut Creek that might even be walking distance to your new job.
check yahoo.com there is a lot availible there.

Cheaper =
Concord
Pittsburg
Antioch
Brentwood
Richmond
El Sobrante (means leftovers)
Oakland
Berkeley
Oakland and Berkeley are kind of far away but they are counter commute, so the drive is easy.
If you are single, Merrit Island area of Oakland is pretty nice.
If you want to discuss it a little PM me and I'll shoot you my Cell.
Well I won't actually shoot you my cell, I won't even throw it at you, I mean you are like way to far away....I'll tell you my number

Note: It was very cold today, this AM it was around +30 degrees and this afternoon it was around +55 degrees F.
