Whaaaassssup Bay Area! - Moving back to the Bay from Hawaii.
Hey Y'all,
Moving back to the bay after 7 years in the aloha state. Gonna miss the lack of smog laws, friendly people, good weather, and 92 octane but... it's time to move back for jerb/family reasons.
I've got a fairly modified 04STi. I'm wondering what chance I have of driving this thing on the street. I suppose the mods that matter to CA are the FMIC, headers, custom intake, and my old school vishnu (thats right I said vishnu) exhaust.
I'm still researching the laws but it seems that I can just register the car and hope for the best but....
I'll likely get pulled over leaving the harbor when i pick up my car. It's kinda.. um... not stock looking on the outside with a widebody kit.
Any tips for an ex-bay area guy moving back into CA?
Regardless, thought I'd say hello and hope to see some new folks at a meet sometime soon.

Welcome back to the BAIC. Maybe you should temporarily remove any attention grabbing mods such as a loud exhaust or spoiler. It also really depends on the local PD of your location..
You should really post up some pics and a modlist. =]

Whats up! My spoiler is stock so I'm not too worried there. The exhaust is not super loud; I've got equal length headers on there and that is helpful. Plus I still am running a cat so I should be ok there. I suppose I could always throw the stock exhaust back on there...

Damn dude that is a nice STI. Good thing your rims aren't too flashy. But I'd still consider taking off the spoiler temporarily if I were you.
Whatever you do I'll definitely be on the look out for a black STI with hawaii plates.

I suppose even the stock "shopping cart handle" STi wing is noticable. LOL
I'm not sure how long I could get away with the Hawaii plates in Cali. It's not like you can drive in from the aloha state.
hahaha

welcome back to the bay my island brother
ive seen a lot of pretty modded cars here on the streets in cali especially here in the bay. i decided not to modify my sti as much as i did with my wrx tho, solely due to the attention you get.

welcome back in advance! i got back from Oahu myself about 5 years ago. If you need a retune for our lovely 91crap gas, you should check out EQ Tuning. Nice car either way!

Thanks for the kind words y'all! I think I'll just try to register this thing and see where it goes. I'll kinda miss having tint all around LOL.
As far as the 91 gas goes.. well I suppose that the WI system will come in handy there. I'll definately need a tune asap. Are you still road tuning Ed or do you have access to a dyno as well? I'd really like to get this car on a dyno to see where it is at. That being said the car has NEVER been on a dyno and runs very well on the road tunes I've had.
Where is a good place to buy methanol in the bay area? How about race gas? I have a 118+ 50/50 water/meth tune that is WAY fun. We used "Rocket Fuel" race gas for the tune.
