STI is not the rally division of Subaru. STI is much like TRD, Subaru's performance-oriented identity.

Considering how many of these things they sell and how STIs represent some of their most expensive cars (and therefore highest margin cars) they aren't going anywhere for the time being.

SWRT is just what they called their rally team. Prodrive ran it if you want to be technical. STi participated in some development, but for the most part Prodrive ran the show.
We can argue about it all we want, though.

all good Ryan, just pointing out to Mike Mckay where his history is flawed and incorrect.

Why does everyone focus on power output? While many people mod for power, the stock STi makes enough power for 90% of the dip**** owners to total the car. I think that they should focus on putting that power to the ground and improving turn in. A couple inexpensive mods DRASTICALLY improve the handling of the STi.
Group-N bushings, slightly bigger sway bars, and a stage 2 setup would make a quick, fast, and nimble car that would fufill the requirements of 95% of STi owners. And for those that do not know, there IS a difference between quick and fast

Factor in how much this affects the average U.S. consumer and you'll get a significantly watered down car. Euro Fords, and JDM cars are examples of what cars can be made to if cost isn't as big of a factor and they don't have to cater to fatass Americans. Unfortunately there's a significantly smaller market in the U.S. to have than cushy cars that can accelerate fast to make up for how scared people are to turn.
