Finished my lower tonight, went to attach it to my upper, and the pivot pin will snap closed just fine, but the takedown pin doesn't want to go all the way. I don't want to force it, but is this something that is 'normal'?

Something might not be drilled strait. you can push it hard because you can use a punch and hammer to get it out.
Try putting a drill bit in around the size of the pin, but use the blank end that the drill holds on to, to see what the problem is.

Took it out this weekend, put about 150 rounds downrange without a single hiccup. I was using the red dot I bought, but I was digging through my closet today and found this:
It's a Barska 3-9x40 that I forgot I had. Got it attached, and gonna take it out this weekend to see how it compares to the red dot.

Nice! No BUIS at least (more for the red dot than the scope)? I think I'd rather do offset than flip up though. I need to order a different mount for my red dot for my CT-9 because the AR cantilever mount sits too high on it.
Just received my Harris bipod today

No BUIS yet, waiting until I replace the handguard/gas block. The rail on the gas block sits lower than the rail on the upper, so not really keen on mounting anything with it like thatl. Going to go at least midlength, maybe rifle length quad rails, haven't decided yet.
