Even if these other vehicles are not registered under his name. Because the other residents of the house are relatives the insurance company would classify all vehicles as being registered under the same person. This way he wouldn't have to put money towards another car, and can still use the wrx for it's initial intention- to drive. If he did this he would receive a discounted rate because of multiple drivers that own multiple cars. Ofcourse, as Stock Y-gon pointed out, other factors would now be at rish...Anyway, this is how it is with my insurance carrier. I've talked to them about this before, and this is how it was explained to me.
You're talking about 2 separate policies now, right? With one car that is under multiple policies?
I was talking about 1 policy that encompasses everyone in the household.

Yes, you can get multiple car discount that way, but the discount isn't as big. I have my own policy and I'm up to 3 cars now, and my WRX's annual insurance is less than the original poster's monthly insurance with enough coverage in case someone tries to sue for my house
nope, 1 policy. but again, as Stock Y-gon mentioned it would put the main policy holder at risk for greater liability.

bottom line, go to a cheaper insurance carrier, get good insurance coverage for not just liability for for full comprehensive and collision. it's always nice to know that you and your car are also covered incase something really bad happens.

maybe not putting the wrx as primary vehicle would lower it. and costco surprisingly has good rates.

Raise the deductable, and take some options out of the policy, and the rates should decrease. But thats way too much for insurance... Might have to get a different company, or a different car...

i was/am in the same positon right now. i actually had to cancel my AAA b/c my monthly bill was about 375! my poor suby has been taking an extened vacation since march. good to hear that there may be ways to lower the premium by buying a second car.

Since I'm not an insurance pro, usually what could be taken out of the coverages and how much would you usually pay for a certain coverage?

edit: Oh yea and do you still get to take out the deductable or is that included on the annual cost?

you know the best way to lower your insurance costs is to not drive like an idiot.....

But on a serious note...maybe you should consider selling your car, especially if you're still in college! Just wait till you graduate to get a nicer car.

Mercury and 21st century are ok companies...
but to the sound of it -- you are a young driver, in a fast car (and insurance companies know you modify the car) and you have tickets, so they have an excuse to know you drive fast...
the only way to lower your insurance is to a) have less points, b) higher deductibles c) go to a low cost insurance company like eastwood, bristolwest... try a google search or someother no name (be careful though... some dont let your friends drive your car, so if someone else drivers your drunk *** home, and something happens you can be in trouble.)
