One thing I have learned is that if you add a second car to your policy, your insurance premiums will decrease, provided that the additional car is an older car that's worth hardly any money. When you add the other car to your policy, make sure you make this car your primary vehicle and decrease your mileage on the WRX. Ideally, you can get a old beater for less than $1k and then save more than $1k in insurance. My insurance dropped $300 after I added my CRX onto my policy. Just make sure you don't buy a car that you have to sink a lot of money into fixing.

^^on that note, can you add it to your parent's policy? may be cheaper for you and you can always just pay them the difference.

Yeah, I was supposed to pay 453 a month for my wrx. I switched over as the primary driver of an old "Amigo" so I'm down to 170, but I just got two tickets (one for "110+" which I still have to go to court for, and one 20 over that I'm goin to traffic school for). So I will probably have 1-2 points on my record depending on if I can prove myself innocent of the "110+".

It may work, but there are some critical drawbacks to adding yourself to your parents' policy. The biggest risk is if your parents have a lot of assets. By adding yourself to their policy, you put their assets at risk if you cause a claim against their policy that the policy can't cover. For example, you cause an accident, and the claim is for $500,000, but your parents' policy only goes up to $200,000. Your parents may need to liquidate their assets to cover the remaining $300,000.

No - then you have multiple drivers with multiple cars.
The point of the 2nd car is that you tell them no one actually drives the WRX. Which would be a null point when you have 2 more people on the policy.

Very true. Thanks for pointing that out. As I'm sure Mikey is fully aware, don't drive like a dick and the chances of this happening will be slim to none.

Actually with family, so long as you are living in the same household as them (and you fall within that age range, I assume Mikey's not in his 30's living at home) there is a multi car discount that can be applied against the other cars in his household. Even if these other vehicles are not registered under his name. Because the other residents of the house are relatives the insurance company would classify all vehicles as being registered under the same person. This way he wouldn't have to put money towards another car, and can still use the wrx for it's initial intention- to drive. If he did this he would receive a discounted rate because of multiple drivers that own multiple cars. Ofcourse, as Stock Y-gon pointed out, other factors would now be at rish...Anyway, this is how it is with my insurance carrier. I've talked to them about this before, and this is how it was explained to me.
