I offered that one year for $13 - and everyone moaned and complained so much about that + $5 park entry was too much. Back when I lived in SoCal, I managed a BBQ restaurant that did catering for NBC Studios from time to time. That's alright though - the meet would be less than 25 people if the cost were $20/person. Then we'd have to deal with the masses who'd try to sneak in, not pay their share, and still eat the food - which seems to be the biggest problem from year to year.

It is a fair price for a fully catered event. One the members don't have to sweat their asses off trying to cook the food and patrol the people who didn't pay.

And I have no problems with the $5 food ticket. I can't buy my own stuff and BBQ it for $5.

Not having been to BAM, I speak from a place of ignorance, but I see this stuff come up every time. My thoughts throughout it all is to bring in these dudes: http://www.emergencybbq.com/ (or similar, I just happen to know they are awesome and do this sort of thing as an example) and hand out a food ticket either at entry or via mail when tickets are purchased. For the people that this doesn't make happy, they can exchange their ticket to one person at the event only for a cash refund of an agreed-upon "meal amount" so they can do what they want. IMHO there are probably better ways to do this, but this method takes away the need for policing completely - you have a ticket, you get food, and this leaves the management of such up to the ticket holder. I would pay $30 to attend, with a setup like this. For what it's worth.
