How do you snowboard?

I'm going to Tahoe this weekend with my gf for the first time to learn how to snowboard. I've always found that to learn anything, get instruction, and practice practice practice. I'll be buying the beginner's lessons at Sugarbowl for 75 bucks that include lift tickets to beginner slopes, rental and 2 hour lesson, but I'd like to know what tips you guys can give me since a lot of you snowboard.

Thanks!

lol wtf? I'm not too scared since it's the sloooow slopes and I can always fall down to stop myself like I did when I tried skiing when I was young. I was going way too fast and didn't know how to stop so I was like **** it, I tripped myself and I came tumbling down.

Just be persistent. Keep challenging yourself, etc. Just practice, practice, practice and get back up when you fall.

keep your knees bent ...watch your downhill edge

actually, if its too flat you'll find it more difficult than a good slope.

get ready to be sore.

Every person I have tried to teach always seems to have a fear of pointing the nose of the board downhill. IMO a bit of speed helps a lot when learning to feel the edges grab the snow. While moving slowly this is very hard to feel. Hell I've been riding for almost 17yrs and I still have a tough time going at a snails pace. Stay over the top of your board with your upper body, think of it this way where your head goes your body is going to follow. Do this by bending at the knees. Try to keep your center of gravity as low as possible until you get the feel for the edges and how to control yourself. While you are moving, never and I mean never place the leading edge of your board on the snow perpendicular to the hill. You will do this and when it happens you'll think of this. Even at very slow speed this will put you down faster than you can blink, and it always very violent. Becareful when you fall backwards, the #1 injury to snowboarders is broken wrists. Do not get discouraged you are going to be hating life the day after, so have fun and learn as much as you can the first day out. Improvment will be your motivator.

My thing was when I would go I would be out of shape and not have enough stamina to get past noon. Best thing you can do is lots of stairs and leg lifts to get ready. My legs were no where near where they needed to be.

Expect to have a rough first day, but keep in mind that the second and third times aren't as bad. Also, bring food to the resort. Resort food is kind of expensive.

the shorter end points at the bottom of the hill. When you get there, the long end gets pointed at the bottom of the hill. Rinse. Repeat. Rinse. Repeat. Find Hot Snobunny. Find something else to repeat.
