im with ipoze, i have NO idea what you are saying. seems like something a bad instructor would tell a school of 4 year olds learning to board.

 

I guess that is why I wouldn't be a good teacher. When i started riding I was 12 yrs old. The first hill I ever smashed was on christmas day in a freaking upstate NY blizzard, right behind my house in a cow pasture. I went out there everyday for my whole christmas vacation. Funny story, the first jump I ever made was out of a mound that I thought was a snow drift but as I was shaping the jump I realized it was a dear deer that had been shot and lost. It died in the pasture and froze up soild. It made a pretty good jump. My first board was a Black Snow Mogul Monster. This was a board you get a KMart. It was hollow plastic with no edges, single tip, no high backs. old school yo. The next board I got was when I turned 14. This too was a black snow Ledgend SE[steel edge], this one was cool, flat bottom, steel edges, still single tip. High back bindings Wooot. I used to ride the chit out of this thing. Then came the first real board. It was an original sin with twin tips. The tips came up at usch an angle, and the flex holy crap did this thing flex. From then it was main steam. I had an Avalanche Road Trip, loved that board. SO on and so forth. Ahh the memories. WE used to barrel through fields with a tow rope attached to the back of a snowmobile ans one of us on a cheapo board ripping it up like being on water skis. Which is what we did in the summer. I could go for days.

 

Although I do appreciate the advice, I think I got it down:P Down. if you want to help me out with getting some extra rotation on a Frontside Cab 360. I'm all ears

Im only on backside 360s so if i only rotate 270' i will fall on my face not back. I turn my upper body and head and swing my arms, it probly looks funny.

frontside is too scary for me, i try to stick to carving and cruzing, getting injured sucks

 

Well... I guess I gotta chime in, too. Just as I was gonna ask Daredevil to throw in his expertise, good ol' Max does his thing.

The analogy of buttering bread or frosting a cake is definitely valid & helpful in that you're saying what several others have said, "Keep your downhill edge off the slope."

However, the whole rear-foot as pivot concept is pretty much old-school, no-sidecut beginner skiing philosophy. When ya need to scrub speed, make a wedge... i.e. push the tails of the skis out. When ya need to turn right, push the tail of you left ski out. Turn left, push your right ski out.

Nowadays, both skis & snowboards have sidecut so that steady weight transfers from edge to edge cause us to turn.

When all is said & done, just listen to your instructor & try to make sense of what he/she is telling ya. And by all means, have fun & don't get discouraged. We've all had to go thru the growing "pains."

Btw, are you & your lady just going up for the day? Or is this a early Valentines' wknd trip & y'all are gonna get your slide on both days?

 

Hey WTF, there are a few of you guys that have been riding for a while too. Every year onemanarmy has a get together at his cabin in Arnold, a bunch of us smash Bear valley and get good and pickled. Why haven't you come up? I'll tell the first time I went up I didn't know anyone there. We are some of the best of friends now. So don't give me that I don't know anyone crap.
