True... but he already bought it. So as long as it's a good one, I'd use it. And the COBB out of the box tunes should be fine for it.
As for no gains... depends. I've seriously seen gains of nearly 30whp just from the intake. Realistically you're talking a lot less most of the time but a properly designed intake with the right partner parts and tune can be beneficial. But that's a debate for another time. LOL!
And yes... I believe they have been catless for a few years now.

You have decent wheels and tires stock so you can start simple.
The main thing will be choosing... coil overs or struts/spring combo.
I basically did struts/springs. Adjusted to that and decided I wanted a bigger rear sway bar. Decided I wanted to go bigger so I got a bigger rear and front sway bar. Endlinks. then you start thinking of chassis braces and what not. Suspension is easy to get obsessed with. LOL.
The way I look at it... on a canyon run or on most tracks... Take car with properly dialed in suspension with say... 300whp and put it up against someone with stupid suspension and wheels choices and 400whp... the properly built car will walk all over the other one.
For me... suspension. Brakes. Power. In that order. LOL!
But I'm a minority.

With these motors it depends on the whole package. One thing alone might not net big gains, but add them together and you can get some serious power - you'll need to get a custom tune though. If it came down to it, the Cobb is the one to go with IMO, so I wouldn't necessarily return it yet. To me that is something you want when you are going for something more than just standard bolt on upgrades though, not a "I'll throw this on over the weekend" mod. Same goes for the intercooler - only makes a real difference if you need it based on the other things you've done.

I personally don't like doing it all at once. At that point you're just buying parts because they look good together or what not. And you'll have a completely different handling car all at once with no time to adjust or decide what YOU want.

Actually, I say FIRST make sure everything you have works right BEFORE you start messing with anything. Your money doesn't do you any good if you mod something that has problems.

your mods are all over the place. as OMA stated, start with the basics. FSB/RSB, tires, coils or strut/spring. from there go with power. and even if you are stage 1, you still want a pro tune. the way i like to see it, "tune it after you tinker". you can throw all those popwer mods on, but without proper tuning...worhtless.
Also AutoHQ in Redwood City, run by Kevin Master Mechanic is another favorite spot for me.
Ill input on other topics of your questioning later.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, I think I am going to rethink how I want my car done now
Next mods instead of up and down pipe.. I may instead steer towards suspension

Even with a slower car, suspension still helps wring the most fun for your dollar out of the car IMHO. I've owned slower cars that were seriously fun to drive every day. I haven't owned a car in a long time that I didn't modify the suspension immediately.

I completely agree with suspensions, brakes, power. I just wanted to do a simple mod first. For suspension though, im not looking to drop my car really, I want control of my car other than looks. Only reason I even mention coil overs is because strut/springs apparently wear out a lot of the stock parts quickly and I am scared I will be screwed if my cars suspension gives out since I do a lot of driving.
