the environmental hazard is indeed toxic chemicals that have contaminated the ground water...it's a friggin' EPA clean-up site...remember, they used to drop bombs for practice there.

how about the suby vendors joining up and sponsor the event there. then maybe charge the entrance and participaton fee for those who wants to run, also for cheap of course so you got more guys wanting to compete.as for volunteers you know a lot of the guys here would be very happy to volunteer to do the clean up and staffing.

what do you think gino

ok...well, since Iv been living in a cave and never noticed this post....where IS this place.

Im not talking about exact directions, but at least a city its close to or how far it is from Sacramento. I would be willing to have an event held out there...just lemme know when and where!

P.S. The buy-the-land idea is cool..too bad all the "extras" on the property (hangers and radio towers) would crank up the price.

lets say you came here from roseville and it took you about an hour and fifteen minutes you would need another 1/2 an hour to get to the Airport.

Regarding environmental clean up at former military airfields:
These fields all had large underground fuel storage bunkers which generally contaminated the crap out of the soil. Also aircraft maintenance means lots of solvents and oil and other petroleum stuff. Which was usually just dumped onto the ground or put into drums which corroded and leaked into the ground.
It's not the kind of thing that is going to be hazardous to somebody who is visiting the site for a short period. But they have to clean this stuff up to meet EPA regulations.

Also this airfield was not used as a gunnery or bombing range. It was used as an auxiliary field for military and government bases in the bay area. There were ranges nearby but they were not located on the base.

getting it is the hard part, being able to pay for the maintainance and insurance should be simple, these meets and runs will pay for themselves.
