If we are all serious about this, we should get a yearly policy and pay monthly. Then every month we have a meet there and everyone pays an "entrance fee" to pay for the insurance, the permits and some food and drinks. This could pay for itself in no time if we do it right, BUT lets make sure that we talk to everyone we need to talk to and make sure its totally cool that we are there and they know what we are doing (to an extent). i'm sure nobody wants 5 CHP to roll up and have everyone line up and pop hoods...

OK, referring to my previous post on this thread....

1. That Sheriff has about zero authority on this one. Sort of like you rolling up to Larry Ellison's place, and ME telling you it is "OK" to go play on his front lawn with your Subaru . Sure someone told you it was "OK", but that "someone" telling you it is OK was irrelevant.

2. The key here is who owns the land. Hint : they are a big landowner in the Mtn View/Sunnyvale area, of another airfield (one of the links in this thread gives it away). This also gets into why this site isn't for rent.

3. The site has environmental issues.

SCCA ran here 10-20 years ago. We look into it again every year. We aren't running there yet, but we want to run there. You connect the dots

Sorry to be negative but i've been there once a long time with some buddy, but never went after that cause some other friends got caught there by the CHP and they got in deep **** for being there… of course they where racing and having top speed contests

the permit thing HA! that’s just funny i doubt the county will agree.. but if they do im there!!

Quote from the website Steve linked to:

"The field is currently wide open with the nearby Sheriff Office substation conducting occasional patrols.

The tower & crash building still stand, as do the field Recreation Building & pool area.

NASA has some trailers with satellite antennae in occasional use on the NE side of the field.

No one is ever seen there from their offices at Ames.

The two concrete runways are deteriorating fast.

Ground water clean-up is continuing.

The airfield is X'd off, but local trainers still shoot occasional touch & go's."

If it is a clean up site, then I doubt you could get permission to run there.

but back in the day you could clear an easy 5K a night for throwing a rave, but nowadays no one will let you have a permit no matter how well you try to disguise what your doing(we use to call them charity food drives and have people bring cans of food )

Class of '91 rave alumni. *hikes up belt* Although it wasn't called raving during my days. It was called "breaking into a warehouse and getting retarded." Actually, it was LA so it was more like "breaking into a warehouse and try to avoid getting shot while getting retarded."

Maybe it's possible to get NASA or UNLIMITED LAPS to host a Subaru event.

We could also get some vendors to sponsor stuff like cones, fees for permit and insurance.

Just a thought.

This all sounds awsome but I wouldnt know the first person to call to host such an event, is there anyone willing to make a few phone calls while I go speak to the Sheriff and county today?

All I can say is, wow....that would be sooooo friggin awesome! we could make it a huge annual yearly suby only meet (like MT. HAMI) but better!

I would be down for sure! but if we were able to get permission from the county to be there, then it would just be that much better! w00t! I am excited now....get this ball rolling for a summer meet!

or I may just have to go out there one day by myself anyways.
