But I like Bridgestone RE050PP or Goodyear F1GSD3 for DD in the bay area that can still run at the track (because of the wet traction, ride, etc). They won't win you any autox nationals, but that's not the goal.

 

I checked out Tirerack & Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec is tempting... especially for $148 each in 245/40-17! But I think it maybe overkill for daily driving (this track day maybe the ONLY time I'd ever be on track).

Another tire that caught my interest is Sumitomo HTR Z III. Tirerack ranked this tire no. 1 on their test against Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position, Continental ContiSportContact 3, & Yokohama ADVAN Sport. Price is even better... $95 each in 245/40-17!!!

 

You really need to stop worrying about tires. You won't be able to use them to the full extent anyways. Just run your M+S. They'll be just fine. No point in wasting on tires if you don't plan to race on them.

But I still need replacement tires for my summer set.

 

Get some Hankook RS2's or Falken Azeni's. The Star Specs are definitely worthwhile, but once again... why pay $100-$150 more for something you won't fully take advantage of?
