As for what chimchimm said, I wouldn't be pushing for a group discount if they didn't say there would be one available.
Fair enough.

So... it's still on, right? What do I need to do next? Register on my own or someone from i-club is organizing it? Where do I take my car for inspection?

Sorry... I'm a noob!

Just wait for registration to open. Once that is open, we can each register. Then we can take it from there.

Sorry... I'm a noob!
You can either "have a professional" inspect it, or just inspect it yourself and sign the waiver. Go down the checklist and see; it's to make sure your car is in safe working order before getting on the track. If you can change your own oil, you can do your own inspection. It's pretty much the same tech inspect you'd do for autox.

There's no point in organizing... just have i-clubers agree sign up for the Nov date with unlimitedlaps.com.

I'll post to this thread when their registration opens. Until then, there's nothing to do but keep your car in working order.

Plan on:
- oil change before the track day; use a 0/5/10w40 weight synthetic
- make sure you have > 50% brake pads left all around
- tires with tread above wear bars
- make sure you don't have spongy brakes, if you do, get them bled; or better yet, flush with a dot4 brake fluid

If you don't feel comfortable doing your own inspection, call one of our local vendors/shops and ask them if they can do an inspection. I don't think it takes that long. I've done tech inspection at auto-x'es, and it really doesn't take that long.

I regularly use Mobil1 5w30... is it necessary to go thicker weight?

Another thing:
My summer set tires (Bridgestone S-03 Pole Position) are at the wear bar now (at least the rear ones), & I'm thinking of changing them before the track day. I figure it's better to spend $600-700 now than sorry. Considering "Extreme Performance Summer" tires (e.g. Dunlop Direzza SportZ1 Star Spec or Hankook Ventus R-S2), but would it be overkill if this event would be the ONLY time my car would ever see the track? Sorry if this is becoming technical.

I ran on all seasons my first event. That was fine. If you are only planning to do one event, there really isn't a need to by super sticky performance tires. It is a driving clinic and not a race.

If you're going to get new tires anyway go for stickies. My first track day was at button willow on some pirelli m&s'. I was squeeling like crazy and 4-wheel drifting over the hill. Laguna's a blast.

You can drive it on some of the latest driving sim games that have the standard line. It can help you get to know the track and line in general before going.

I'll be going to either this or another org's Laguna track day depending on my schedule. I'll be in my g35. My wagon got totaled in Tahoe. RIP...

Well... I'm NOT getting M+S tires for sure. Thinking of "Max Performance Summer" tires (Sumitomo HTR Z III look promising & good price, too).

Regardless, if you get new tires make sure you put a few hundred miles on them to clear the mold-release goo before getting on the track.

laguna is very easy on tires, literally 4-5 times easier on them than Thunderhill. the surface is very smooth. thats why thunderhill is currently getting repaved. if you have tread you will be fine, just my opinion,

if its your first trackday allseasons are fine, you won't be going very fast anyways. lower grip limit might be better just in case you make a mistake and need to correct-- things happen slower (u hit things slower)

If your tires are at the wear bar, you might want to change them... later. The track day isn't until november, so you can run on your s03's a little more. Just make sure to put 500 miles on your new tires before taking them to the track (this gets rid of the manufacture coating and heat cycles them). A/S's are just fine. You want tires that have progressive break away more than max grip; so they will be "forgiving" we you go a tad over their limit.

The instructor I had on my first track day used some cheapie A/S tires on an old 82 Fiero. Fricken amazing how fast he was. He kept up in the turns with Miata's on R-comps. Driving skillz.

Fendyman... are you putting these on your RS 6-spokes? Do you bring the car to the snow? If so, just get the A/S.

I never go to the snow, so I get summer tires and use them all year round for commuting and track days.

As for the oil, 5w-30 is for daily driving fuel economy. Subaru actually recommends 10w40 or even 10w50 in more demanding performance situations. If you can find 5w40, that's probably the best.

No, my RS 6-spoke wheels have M+S tires (Falken Ziex ZE-912) already. S-03 are on my summer set 17x8.5" Advan RCII.

So... I guess I should just roll on my M+S tires then?

If you have enough tread on your tires, you can certainly do so. No need to spend money on super sticky tires if you don't plan to fully utilize them. I ran my first track days on my skinny Falken Ziex 512's.
