I bought a 5 gallon jug last Friday at Shermin-Williams for $7.45 a gallon ($40 for the 5 gallon jug.)

You can probably order the 55 gallon drum from Shermin-Williams, but you will need a dock to unload it. They will not unload it at your house or anything like that.

I went to the Sherman-Williams (sp?) in Emeryville and got two gallons in 2x1-gal cans. Dumped it right in. Car eventually adjusted and my cellphone kept flying out of its holder when I'd hit the gas

They sell it in 1gal and 5gal cans. The price for 1gal was $8.50 at the time. I added my two gallons to the rest of the tank with 76's 91octane. Comes out to around 94 octane. If you price against pumped 100 or 104 it all comes out to about the same.

I did not try any of the mixing in diesel and spirits, etc, as cleaners, lubricants, what have you. But next time I might try it as pure toluene is pretty corrosive.

Here's a link if you don't know what toluene is yet:

always wanted to, but never got around to it... i figured i'd add 2 gallons of the stuff to a tank to get a good octane level. where are some actual locations to get the stuff though? I've gone to a bunch of places and most of the people knew a) it was for a car, and b) they stopped selling it awhile ago.

Not at all! And guess what? Octane booster is nothing more than a Toulene/Xylene mix!

If you use octane booster, you will raise your octane by one point. Actually, that is 1/10th of a point...because 10 points is actually 1 octane point...so, you will go from 91, to 91.1 octane. Get my drift?

That is why we don't use octane booster!

Freddie : read those links, they explain it.

In summary, "Octane Boost" from the parts store is paying about $6 for 16 oz (i.e. about $50 PER GALLON) for Toluene! One "can" of that stuff only boosts octane approx 3-4 "points" (and it'll admit it right on the can).....what the can DOESN'T admit clearly is that a "point" of octane is only 0.1 octane!

In other words, a tank of 91 octane plus a can of octane boost yields a tank that isn't 95 octane, but rather only 91.4 octane.

Using octane booster products is like paying, oh i'd say, about $40/gal for toluene or xylene.

Hey little man Travis...KEEP DREAMING! You had better grow a few inches, and gain a few pounds before you start making claims like the ones above!

j/k...

Andy (BADWRX) is the one who adds Diesel fuel to the mix......
but he is out of town right now. He said it worked great, but he'll have to tell you when he gets back.

This link talks about mixing it all together:

http://www.vtr.org/maintain/gasoline-octane.html

what I don't get is if this mix protects your fuel system parts.
